Sep 14th 2006 5:25PM (Joystiq)I will admit the price is steep for only one controller. Nintendo should have taken the financial hit and packed in two controllers w/ nunchucks, especially since Wii is launching with a multiplayer sports game.
We still don't know if the component cables are going to be with the console or if they must be purchased seperately, although the late launch date will ensure there are a large number of consoles to go around. I can see some people purchasing a Wii if(when?) they can't find a PS3.
Finally, one must remember back in 2001 the PS2 was the weakest console and it cost at least $250, came with no game and one controller. The Wii will provide some amazing graphics in standard and enhanced definition one developers are given some time with it. Not to mention the online connection, services, and eventually gaming are free. The same can not be said for XBox 360.
So, there are some pros and cons with this launch, but what launch doesn't have high and low points?
Wii Sports and the games within
Sep 14th 2006 5:01PM (Joystiq Nintendo)Nintendo should just have taken the financial hit to include another controller with the Wii Sports bundle.
Wii Sports to include tennis, baseball, golf, bowling, and boxing
Sep 14th 2006 4:41PM (Joystiq)People really need to stop beating the already dead graphical horse. Yes, we all know the Wii will not output in HD or as powerful as a 360, but on a standard TV or EDTV there shouldn't be too much of a difference.
If you want a "true" HD experience, get a PC, which has had this "HD" stuff for many years already. I really don't understand why some people act like they need everything to be in HD nowadays; HDTV has only been available to the masses for a short time, this is the first generation of consoles in the HDTV era, and suddenly people need games in HD? Wii games will be widescreen and progressive scan, I say that is good for this generation.

Sep 14th 2006 4:21PM (Joystiq)1. Sell the Wii at $199 like all their previous consoles
or
2. Bundled two remotes w/ nunchucks in the current package
I'm very suprised (and disappointed) Nintendo didn't bundle two remotes with the Wii since it is hard to be "Wii" without at least two people. I think that is a rather large mistake on their part. Perhaps they are following the strategy some people are suggesting: this launch is for the fans and in a few months the push for casual/new gamers will begin.
I think Nintendo did nail the timing of the launch; they will have an ample supply and since the PS3 will sell out quickly, the choice for many/most people will be between the 360 or Wii. The Wii is less expensive and the normal person knows Nintendo more for gaming (and family friendliness) than Microsoft.
Among other things, the controller is expensive, but it's new technology, so I really didn't expect anything less. The lineup of games is looking good, and underpowered the Wii will not be; the ATI GPU has been five years in the making and the new processor from IBM is strong.
Overall, I would give Nintendo a B- for this launch. Not bad, but could have been much better.
