Gamestop beta testing console streaming service
Aug 19th 2011 7:09PM (Joystiq)If the company sucks then it should go out of business. If GS was gone then users of the store would be forced to go elsewhere. The more business the alternatives get the more people they (should) hire. It's like people who want Ubisoft to end. It's about the principles of the company and the way it treats customers. We shouldn't ignore the shortcomings of a company and hope it does well just because people ave a job there. We should hope that it does better or dies off.

Aug 19th 2011 7:04PM (Joystiq)I always wondered how much (if at all) games would suffer on a good internet connection with OnLive. The advertisements for it looked really nice, but it seems like it could have a lot of issues. I always feel better about my games when I can play them when the internet is down, so I don't think i could ever really get into Onlive, but it's an interesting concept.

Aug 19th 2011 6:58PM (Joystiq)$1500 computer if you want to max games out without overclocking. You could get PS3/360 quality on your steam games for much less than that. And since this is GS we're talking about it's absolutely nothing like Steam at all.
PlayStation Vita has more RAM than PS3 (hey, cross-game chat!)

I meant no reason for the lack of xchat, not that xchat is useless. I'm tired.
PlayStation Vita has more RAM than PS3 (hey, cross-game chat!)
Aug 18th 2011 11:34PM (Joystiq)I thought he did a good job writing the article. One of the only ones I've fully read on Joystiq. He raises a good point, why can't the PS3 do crosschat? There's just no use for it. I was super excited to get my PS3, but I'd say it's one of the biggest technological letdowns in the past 6 years. They kept saying it was like a computer and how awesome it would be, so no one complained when it had inferior system software compared to that of the 360. Everyone just KNEW Sony was going to come through and make it shine. I thought for sure they would.
There's no doubting that Sony has done good things, but come on. They've wasted so much time on a reward system that never got fully implemented and on adding useless features and services. The XMB is still bland looking, despite people making countless examples online of how it should look. The XMB is also incredibly slow to come up if you're playing a game, which is just unacceptable. 90% of the buttons on it are unusable during a game. That isn't some great advanced feature. It's not like Microsoft was revolutionary in making a menu that didn't have every possible button on it. That exists on the most simple programs.
Yes, the PS3 has come a long way and it has some great games, but Sony just screwed up bad. I used to be a big fan of them, but I'm not too impressed by them now. There's so much potential with what they have going, but it feels like they're just squandering it. I hope the PS4 gets it right, but I don't see the PS3 really making much more progress. This article barely touches the surface of that, and that's more than fair.

Aug 13th 2011 6:02PM (Joystiq)"Nobody knows who he is and he thinks he can capitalize on it. Meanwhile the guy used to work for the Federal Reserve."
Um...hardly anyone knows who any politicians are. No one knew who Obama was until he ran for president. No one ever knows who politicians are unless they've done something largely controversial or you live in the state they represent, so I really don't get your point. No one went 'Nobody knows who Obama is and he's trying to capitalize on it' when he ran for president. That's why the media does such extensive research, because before they do something major or that people dislike no one cares.
As for the federal reserve...a lot of people have worked there. He's expressed a strong dislike for the way the government has handled things in any recent times, especially things involving money. And if you're trying to say he's bad with money or something then you need to do some research. The guy went into dying businesses that parent companies were going to let die and brought them back to actually being a large source of wealth. Most big companies that pay people big bucks still can't figure out how to treat customers right and make things successful. He doesn't sound like an idiot at all. He sounds like he actually has at the very least a small idea of what he's doing, which is more than can be said for our currently employed politicians.
Ubisoft says always-on DRM is 'a success,' fans are confused
Jul 30th 2011 9:38PM (Joystiq)"but if people couldn't rent games, buy them used or borrow them from friends"
When did I ever say that? I said if piracy didn't exist. No one buys something after they pirate it unless they want to play the online. Renting games has nothing to do with this whatsoever. I know you have a weak argument but at least try to stay on topic.

Jul 30th 2011 4:43PM (Joystiq)It would be impossible to have evidence for it. Only evidence that points to hypothetical conclusions. If piracy didn't exist and someone really wanted to play a game then they would pay for it. You can't justify stealing something by saying you wouldn't have gotten it anyways. In that case I'm going to pirate every single valve game, but it's okay because I wasn't going to spend money on it anyways. I'm not saying every game ever pirated would have been a sale otherwise, but many would have, especially when it comes to popular games. If you really want to see the Dark Knight, you might pirate it as it's easy to do. But if you couldn't pirate it then you'd go rent it for a couple dollars. Pretending like this would never happen is just naive.

Jul 30th 2011 3:09PM (Joystiq)I understand where you're coming from, but where I live Comcast sucks and can't figure out how to properly set my connection up, so every once in a while my internet will go out for a few seconds. Usually I can stay logged into things, like skype of gtalk or games, but sometimes I get kicked out of a bc2 game. I can understand why that happens, but if I get kicked out of single player because my internet lags out for half a second then that's just stupid. I've also wondered how this would affect saving a game. What if I'm right next to a save point and then my internet lags off? Does it kick me out and not save anything, or does it do a save state like with an emulator? I'm assuming it just kicks you off, and at that point it affects the fun of the game, so screw that.
I agree that having some DRM is fine, they should protect their products, but they shouldn't go this far. Surely there's a better way they can handle this.

Jul 30th 2011 3:02PM (Joystiq)"Most people who pirate games are people who would never buy the game in the first place"
What a stupid argument. Sure, there are times when people get a game simply because they can and they're bored, but the majority of things people pirate they would buy. Music might be the one exception to this, as it's very quick to download tons of it and you can very quickly filter through to see what you like, but look at movies. No one downloads a movie they thought looked like garbage. No one is going to pirate the smurf movie because no one wants to watch it. The bottom line is that pirates WOULD buy many of the games they pirate if it was the only way for them to play games. It's just plain stupid to act like people would pirate things they have no interest in.
