@silver47 yer the cost is the major thing, my dad got a free HTC desire on Orange for a £20pm contract. Simply people are tighting their belts at the moment, my brother flogged his 3g for £200 got a desire for free and got the Skysports and Sky Movies package for his TV with the savings.

In addition a couple of friends of mine that have been anti-iphone (because everyone keeps going on about them) have bought HTC desires, (so they did want one but they didn't want the cost!).

I still feel Microsoft have a lot to say in this market, when I ordered my iphone the IT department tried to persuade me to get a windows mobile phone because it has "greater connection to exchange" apparently.

If the windows mobile 7 operating system is perceived to be more finalised than android and the brand is pushed it could catch up pretty quickly.

I personally dont think people are buying Andriod phones, I think they are buying phones that are like an iphone but cheaper, Andriod doesn't have the recognition IMO. When discussing their phones they talk about the HTC phone rather than the google/andriod phone (that youtube cartoon has worked wonders for HTC I feel).

In the UK I am seeing people who's contract is running out on their 3g iphones switching to phones like the HTC desire, the main reason is the free phone deals and the £20 a month less contract and the fact you can shove a £10 SD card in it.

I ordered the iphone 4 yesterday but that's because my work are paying for it but even then I still deep down fancy something fresh, the iphone OS is beginning to feel a bit bland and boring to me.

I was just pointing out that people mock these things but they make a tonne of money I fully expect to see them running around people's avatar's before long, the point is MS's nickle and dime model is making them profits while Sony's is costing them billions, and MS's console sales have hardly been effected.

We'll see in the long run which is the more sustainable model.

People may scoff but MS will make more money on these "avatar pets" than Sony will make on the whole of the PS3 over its entire lifespan.

Once again PS3 owners treated like 2nd class citizens!!!

Well this is a NPD thread!! If you have to bring in mythical european figures on what we have no information then how can we debate the topic at all?

Fable 2 sales were higher than MGS in their first months NPD's and for all we know subsequent months carried on in a similar vain.

Also Left for Dead totally outsold LBP as well in the NPD's in every month the games were out.

Maybe because PS3 exlusives sell like shut? Even Fable 2 and Left foer Dead trounced anything on Ps3 last year!
