PAX 07 hands-on: Wii Table Tennis controls are insane

Aug 25th 2007 11:59PM (Joystiq)
The blame for this lies wholly in Rockstar and their ineptitude, the remote and sensor are plenty accurate and capable of doing this. They're just jumping in for a cash-in and to test the market with another shoddy port... pretty disappointing actually.

Smash Bros. Brawl update brings out fireworks [Update 1]

Jun 2nd 2007 3:51PM (Joystiq)
This could easily be the Nunchuk control stick. At first I thought otherwise, since you'd need that for moving and therefore couldn't use it for aiming too.... and then I realized that you'll only need to move Left and Right, which leaves Up and Down for aiming your guns.

Of course, last we heard was that it would only support GCN and possibly Classic controllers, but they haven't really talked about it much since then... and that was quite a while back, so things may have changed.

Europe gets Picross DS

Mar 31st 2007 12:19AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Argh! I just imported this from Japan last week. It's really amazing, but it sucks that I could have waiting a bit longer to import one in English. And not have to use a katakana cheat sheet. Oh well, there's really not much text in the game anyway -- and I wonder if the Euro release will have the weekly downloadable classic levels that the Japanese version does.

DS Daily: Buttons

Mar 20th 2007 3:24PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I think the button configuration is great, and the buttons on the Lite are a lot better than the ultra-clicky ones on the original DS -- they could stand to be a little bigger, but I'm used to them, no big deal. I'm also perfectly happy with the SNES configuration, I'm glad we got two more face buttons, using L and R to cycle through commands worked okay for GBA games but it was a pain.

Wii Warm Up: What have you bought?

Feb 26th 2007 10:07AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
So far I've only got Zelda, Excite Truck, and Elebits. Loving all three of them. I also bought Super Monkey Ball, but returned it within a week after seeing how awful the controls were - I felt like I was going to sprain my wrist by how it was making me twist it.

Who to enhance with a gaming face-lift?

Feb 5th 2007 12:56AM (Joystiq)
If you're looking for companies to go to all the trouble of redoing all the graphics for games, then you can be sure they're not going to release it for $10 or less on the Virtual Console. They're going to release it on a GBA or DS cart for $35 for all the effort they put into remaking the game. If anything does show up in the future for download on Wii (and not on VC, which they've stated is ONLY for original emulated games and not new content), I could see them maybe charging $20, same as an original casual download game. Definitely not less than that.

Wii Warm Up: to Standby, or not to Standby

Jan 31st 2007 1:18PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I always leave mine on. Not just in standby, but on the Wii Menu. Just in case. I don't trust that power button to keep functioning, better to just leave it on...

But seriously, in Standby mode it uses about the same energy as a night lite. I'm sure that leaving my router and modem on is using astronomically more energy than the Wii. I'm more than happy to spend an extra 10 cents per month to wake up to that glorious glowing blue light when I have a message.

Forecast channel under casual fire

Jan 22nd 2007 10:16AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
If it really is an issue of not wanting to bombard the servers and that's why it's updated so infrequently -- at LEAST have it update when you actually START the Forecast Channel. I don't need that thing updating every 15 minutes, and it seriously is pointless to do that, but at least let it be up-to-date when I click on it.

Why we can't wait for iPhone gaming

Jan 9th 2007 3:03PM (Joystiq)
And regarding unlocking the phone to use on other carriers: Cingular and Apple jointly developed the visual voicemail feature, I wonder if that would even work on any other carrier's service.

Why we can't wait for iPhone gaming

Jan 9th 2007 3:01PM (Joystiq)
Well seeing as the menu screen shows a big "Games" button, I'd imagine it's on its way.

And @ #8, regarding the $.50/minute for internet --- it's got WiFi. You don't need to pay for cell-network internet. Though I suppose if there's no WiFi nearby and it switches to it, there may be a charge -- who knows what kind of plans Cingular will cook up for it.

Damn you Cingular!! Why won't you put more towers in my area.
