Atari's Haunted House returns to scare PC, Xbox 360 and Wii

Jul 16th 2010 11:16AM (Joystiq)
!!! This is the first game I ever became obsessed with (ok that and Combat/Space invaders but they are 'obvious') my atari glowed red as I played this sucker all night... suprising when you consider how simple it was haha (I was.. only 7 or something)

Gamefly listings suggest Centipede and Star Raiders remakes

Jul 16th 2010 11:15AM (Joystiq)
I had star raiders on my atari as a kid. I didn't like the game but I loved the keypad.. felt like I was 'in the future' already ;)

Also haunted house was one of my favourite atari games back in 82. god i'm showing my age. (36)

Dead Rising 2 'Outbreak Pack' staggering to Europe, Capcom 'not bringing' it to North America

the first game was one of the best of this generation, you heathens!

EyePet Move Edition ... now in 3D!

Jun 16th 2010 7:48PM (Joystiq)
My GF has eyepet. I'm wondering how it will work out when the computer generated gfx are '3D' and yet the backdrop (your living room) is merely a 2D plane (video). I guess some cheating is involved. You would think a 2 camera system would be employed to keep the 3D feeling correct, cos overlaying 3D onto a 2D backdrop is a hack.

MotorStorm: Apocalypse announced, racing to E3

Jun 11th 2010 8:24PM (Joystiq)
First game I've been really excited about ALL FRICKIN YEAR. Love the motorstorm series, they are some seriously polished and fun racers (and don't mention S/Second in the same sentence please - that's just a short term piece of fun).

Rumor: Motorstorm 3 screens look positively apocalyptic

Great news about motorstorm3.. I really love the first 2 games. Best racer on PS3 (so far). Different and immersive, great graphics and physic (and gameplay). Yes please, more of it. :)

And I can see them doing well with the new environments, I think they have earned our trust by now, they won't just make it 'city' racing it will be amazing taking motorstorm style into the city - open your minds people!

Review: Blur

Jun 4th 2010 10:31AM (Joystiq)
Really poor game. I can't believe this is the same guys behind PGR (I loved PGR3 on 360). This game just screems 'unfinished'. Poor driving model, poor gameplay, poor design and beyond poor graphics.. even on PC, it looks like a racer from 5+ years back.

Wouldn't be so bad if the gameplay was stunning, but it's quite terrible (just like the physics and handling). Running full speed into a lane divider only to come to a sudden 'halt' without any reaction that induces a sense of the real world is beyond lame.

Envrionments (from what I saw while I could still be bothered to play my Friend's version) were universally 'GENERIC' in the worst meaning of the word - save for the 'ruined track' look of one of them (the oval) - good idea but looks like it was run off by a first time developer.

I can't believe the hype this game got, can only assume it's another collusion by the industry to buoy the summer drought - I'm glad SOME have called it out for what it is. It feels just like one of those shoveware/budget games by no-name devs you used to pick up for $10.

And.. split second? Well it's much better than this for sure, but even that has the stench of 'almost budget title' about it - at least S/S feels like a game, a pure arcade game, fun in short doses.. Blur is just a mess. What were the devs thinking. PGR was 1000x better than this.

Blur's French TV spots are far from feminist

May 25th 2010 2:49AM (Joystiq)
Nothing wrong here - men have been treated as jokes (and cliches) in adverts since feminism kicked in. All we're seeing here is a redressing (or undressing) of the balance. Besides most (young, good looking) women are treated like that in real life, why lie, they look to men for assurance and to dominate them slightly - it's nature ffs, you don't complain about the animals doing it (sometimes the females are dominant). They love it really, it's only the ugly old spinsters who got their tits in a knot cos they could never compete with the 'dolly birds' so stamped out the fun for all...

...or maybe not ;)

Also the graphics during racing looked 'dull', there was little sense of physics/speed and it was quite a snooze fest to complete a lap.

The 'carts felt more like top heavy double deck buses. A fault lots of modern mario kart wannabes make (inc later mario karts themselves). Carts will always feel more fun when low to the ground with masses of grip and great speed (apex to apex fun) - camera angles were also of the 'casual gamer' variety with no way to change it that I could see.

I'm hard to please I know but this could have been so much better, just needed some more care in design instead of tacking on the racing part to the creation part. I'm sure kids and those without jobs/lives will love it (due to having time to create more than race).

Modnation menus look nice, not impressed with the racing though. The steering is completely off! Try going around a corner by just holding the stick left/right a little - a PROPER system wouldn't make the car oversteer even when you turn just a little.

It's essentially working like a digital on/off (D-Pad) system but with a bit of analog esq speed of turn built in, it's not proper analog - possibly to cater to the stupid/casual crowd. All I know is it killed the fun after 2 goes, constantly correcting back to centre just to take a mild curve with a little stick.

Nice try devs but next time think of the gamers who can actually drive and not just soccer moms.
