Sony's PlayTV DVR for PlayStation 3 gets unboxed

Aug 20th 2008 2:46PM (Engadget HD)
I'll take a 4 tuner US 256-QAM version w/Tru-2-way and multi-stream cablecard slot now please.

I would like to take my cable box with the molasses slow and buggy Passport Echo software that doesn't allow me to use the eSATA port and throw it out the window.

Down towards the bottom there is one called "Extreme Home Hobbyist CMOS Endocamera with Lights"

I found that funny.

Developers talk about iPhone's gaming prowess

Jul 17th 2008 11:34AM (TUAW.com)
The thing is, I don't see myself playing games that are too involved on my iPhone. I bought Monkey ball, didn't like it, Bandicoot racing, liked it some, Motion-X Poker(with the dice), play the hell out of it. Simple game, I know, but I think these work better for a phone. Maybe it's just my mindset, or the control scheme, or that I'm getting older. Who knows...

Apple prepping iPhone 2.1 software

I imagine it will be as stable as 1.1.4 around 2.0.2 this time.

iPhone activation working

Jul 11th 2008 4:57PM (TUAW.com)
Agreed, but I assumed they would have wanted to do it after as not to possibly cut into the sales of the 3G of people who already have the original. They could have even swayed some of those people on the fence about that (those with a bunch of disposeable income) by delaying the 2.0 firmware for the original by about two weeks.

iPhone activation working

It is logical to assume that 2.0 firmware has been taken offline (or throttled at random) to help the activation servers catch up with the load, and to allow people who just spent money on the 3G to have a chance too.

I am going to wait for all this to calm down.

I would also actually like to see maybe an iTunes 7.7.1 before I update(and maybe a 2.0.1 firmware), or some other patch to ensure my stuff doesn't go belly up when I do the update.

They have really put themselves in one hell of a situation with this, these are the "DO NOTS" they have done today:

1. Released on Friday - I'm sure those Apple IT guys and developers have families, but I would definately request at least a week off after this, thanks for the hard work over this coming weekend BTW.

2. Coupling a new product (3G) with new software for previous iPhone on the same day sharing activation infrastructure. - Should have staggered it, waited until next week for 2.0 for original.

3. Releasing the new required method of communication with the phone (iTunes 7.7) not but a day or two before launch. - This should have been out weeks ago, we could have had a 7.7.1 patch...

4. Throw in 2.1 AppleTV update. You guys are just begging for trouble.
