Dec 4th 2011 11:41AM (Joystiq)GFWL isn't bad by itself, but so often it's coupled with other online services and it just gets in the way. Like Batman: Arkham City. I started it, logged into GFWL, had to download my profile, then patch GFWL after it gave me vague errors like "could not download patch". All while the game was already running through Steam and had no need for GFWL whatsoever.

Nov 3rd 2011 3:10PM (Joystiq)Totally. I don't want to be one to hate on consoles, they appeal to the masses and do it well, but I think some absolutely amazing lighting effects can be accomplished with PCs that would not be attainable on consoles at a reasonable framerate. Especially with Alan Wake being all about the lighting.

PSA: Compromised PSN info used in mass access attempt
Oct 12th 2011 1:35AM (Joystiq)This has absolutely nothing to do with net neutrality. For all we know, they got passwords off of Minecraft's database. Net neutrality is the stance that restrictions shall not be imposed upon the Internet, not that we should be able to break into databases and steal account information.
Most likely, this has nothing to do with some sort of philosophical view of the Internet. What probably happened was someone goofed up big time and these guys found a way past someone's security. Using the account information from some database, they're trying them on all sorts of websites and services, PSN being the only one vocal about it. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear something from Microsoft in the next 24 hours.
PSA: Compromised PSN info used in mass access attempt
Oct 12th 2011 1:00AM (Joystiq)From a post below:
"If you read the Playstation Blog article, it's clear that the logins and passwords were gathered from a different hacked database and used to attempt logins on PSN.
People that got an email are those whose PSN login and password were the same as their login and password elsewhere.
"Compromised PSN info" is a little misleading."
They got information from another database, and decided to try to log into PSN with them. Most likely, they've tried (or will try) to log into XBL with those same accounts. They are not targeting Sony specifically, and there is such a ridiculous chance that these people even knew someone who knew someone who knew someone who sort of knew a guy who knew something about the PSN hacks a couple of months ago that to link this incident to the major debacle at few months ago is ludicrous.
