GamerBytes study shows disappointing sales for XNA Community Games

Incorrect. Microsoft only takes 30-35% of XBLCG profits; the rest go directly to the developer.

Opinion: Why I can't go beyond the first 5 mins of Call of Duty: World At War

@Facesniff: This is what I'm talking about. No. I don't give a shit. The game doesn't have you walk around and brutally torture ethnic groups. It's a video game, and I'm not going to be offended by something so trivial.

@Popfrogs: A catcall on the street is an overexaggeration, but trust me, there's still a fair bit of anti-Semitism out there. See: Mel Gibson. But whatever.

Chrono Trigger DS to have a new ending

Sorry, forgot the question mark. It's "This is...?" It could also be read as "This...?" She's just wondering what the heck is going on.

Mr. Riley, this is weakness.

Treyarch is portraying the Pacific front as they see fit, and as you stated, they don't have to change a thing. But your inability to conquer your own childhood fears is causing you undue pain and anguish.

I'm Jewish. I know the feeling. But when some idiot in the street insults me, or someone uses some epithet or another, I shrug it off. Those people are fools, uneducated and wrong, and to let their words hurt me would mean letting them win. Stop allowing others to so deeply wound you. You'll be a lot happier for it.

Xbox 360 community games: 48 hours from submission to release

Oct 18th 2008 8:31PM (Joystiq)
Actually, it's 40k to first, 20k to second, 10k to third, and 5k to fourth. It's technically a prize, though the point is presumably to use that money to finish the game so it can be released on XBLCG.

As a developer of a Dream Build Play entry in 2008 and someone who's been working with XNA 2.0 for several months, you guys need to shut your mouths. I've seen some INCREDIBLE entries, ones that easily exceed numerous XBLA titles in depth and graphical prowess. The system is exceptionally well-done, XNA is a wonderful tool, and guess what? If you don't like a game, don't friggin' buy it. Vote with your dollars, not with your mouths.

Counting Rupees: Sustainable Indies

Aug 25th 2008 8:48PM (Joystiq)
I've actually been working on an indie game for the XNA Dream Build Play competition coming up in late September.

I'll be perfectly honest, here. My game, even extrapolated to a absolutely complete and polished form, will never be another Braid. And I don't expect it to be. But why did that game cost $400,000 dollars? The art and music were spectacular, and how much was he paying these people?

I am simultaneously my game's writer, programmer, designer, and partially its artist and sound designer. I don't claim to do all these things perfectly; I intend to compensate the composer and few background artists well. But my game will never exceed a budget of $10,000 (probably not even $5,000), I assure you, and this I'd only need to sell around 3,000 copies at $5 apiece to break even.

Doesn't sound so hard to me...

Better get back to work. = D
