Install and run iPad apps on an iPhone easily with iTelePad2Pod

Apr 26th 2011 10:55AM (TUAW.com)
Is there an app that does this, but the opposite - show iPhone apps on your iPad, but using the retina display assets to make them mostly fill the screen without scaling?

International travelers are best off with the AT&T iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G

Has Verizon announced their iPad 3G data plan pricing yet?

Are free digital content apps a free ride on Apple? How to move forward

Feb 17th 2011 12:18AM (TUAW.com)
When you use Apple's In-App purchase system, the only infrastructure costs to Apple are for the data transmission of your purchase request and response. Apple does not host the actual in-app content on their system - they require that it already be in the app binary and unlocked with purchase or downloaded from the developer's servers.

Some people seem to be indicating that this is in part to help offset Apple's cost to host free apps they get no revenue from. If that's an issue, Apple should require free app developers to host the app from their own servers. Then the storage and bandwidth costs for the app shift to the developer. To the end-user, it would be transparent, as the App Store could initiate the download between the device and the developers' hosting servers.

Fishies in-app purchases are fishy

I'm pretty sure you're right - the prompt to verify/login to buy an in app purchase comes from the device. The app can initiate a purchase, but Apple controls the part where the user is asked to confirm purchase.

First day thoughts on iPhone 4

My only disappointment is that I can't upload 720p video to YouTube direct from the phone, even over WiFi.

I was hoping Amanda would run in the bathroom, read the clue, then flush it. Why hand it over just because you are told to?

Starbucks expands pay-by-iPhone pilot

Apr 19th 2010 11:51PM (TUAW.com)
I tried to use this at our local Targetbucks last week after reading the test had been expanded. I showed the phone to the employee who gave me a blank stare, gave a few half-hearted attempts at scanning the iPhone screen with their hand scanner, then told me that they don't accept paying that way there.

DVD Review: Battlestar Galactica: The Plan

Oct 26th 2009 2:40PM (AOL TV)
The Plan was such an unfortunate let-down. The comment about it feeling like a bunch of deleted scenes is right on the money - while it fleshed out some background details, I mainly sat there thinking "what's the point of this?" while watching. I was hoping that they would at least flesh out some of the further-back details: who the 7 models were based on; how Cavil inserted the 5 so far back before the start of the series; how he made the other models forget who the 5 were, etc. Instead we got a story that starts just before the attack on the colonies and ends before the end of season two, less than halfway into the series.

It just works. Usually.

Isn't part of the point of buying a Mac that, unlike a PC, there is a controlled hardware system to go with the OS that should mitigate against unknown factors with OS releases?

I think part of what's so frustrating about the SL issues (I have had issues on my Mac Pro though not my Macbook) is that a release touted as having so little new features so that it could increase overall stability has actually done the opposite and created problems.
