Did Chris Grant from Joystiq change his name to Christ? That would be rad!

Dell Mini 5 to be the vanguard of 'a family of tablets'

Feb 26th 2010 10:48AM (Engadget)
I don't fully understand why they can't cater something like this to more than one carrier. Why do they need to negotiate with AT&T on bringing it to market.
Why not sell it on their website like one of their laptops and have you customize it? You want it in Verizon, Dell will throw the appropriate CDMA radios in there. You want it on T-Mobile, they can add the GSM crap with sim slot. Sprint network? No problem! AT&T? Why not.
I'm not sure how great these carrier exclusive deals are, but I feel like someone is missing a major opportunity to make a phone that anyone can specify to use on their carrier of choice.
And not only should they customize the radios to use on whatever carrier you want, you should also be able to customize the phone specs. Pay more for a higher res screen. Pay more for a camera with more megapixels. I don't understand why a company hasn't made a customizable phone yet.

Commodore PET caught running Windows Phone 7 Series?

@Nilay Patel

Thank you for the clarification. I had absolutely no idea why this was on the site. If it were April 1st I could understand, but since we're not there yet I needed a bit of help. Thanks.

Sony's secret kill switch: myth, rumor or hearsay?

Jan 22nd 2010 3:59PM (Engadget)
I don’t think that there’s some secret switch, but there is definitely some planned (or engineered) obsolescence. A company has no interest in building a device that lasts forever. They want it to break. They need it to break.
And the PS3 doesn’t need a switch because it has its firmware updates break the machine. Duh.

Gah. Someone beat me to it... with a lower price to boot. I'm ashamed of myself.

I'm pretty sure Larry David was wearing one of these in the men's room when he was checking out Muggsy Bogues' man-piece.

"... you'll also be able to keep continuous watch on all that data via your cellphone of computer..."

What exactly is a cellphone of computer? Is that some other fancy gadget that I would need to buy too? Maybe only something in Japan.

Samsung unleashes slew of new HZ, TL, and SL-series cameras

@pencilmind
Is it the 4gb size limit of FAT32 that's causing your camera to stop recording for your overnight videos? I know that size limit causes a lot of frustration with people doing high res DSLR videos.
