It's a '60s MGB convertible :)

Rendered Confirmation: Audi releases sketches of A5 Cabrio, Sportback, A7 and next A8

And they look...the same

While i LIKE the Audi design scheme (about 4-6 years ago, I would have said I loved it), its total unwillingness to change despite continuous refreshes is really starting to bore the hell out of me. The only changes I see now are a slight improvement to the headlights (out with the gaudy LED-bottomed blinkers please!) and a little Ford Focus-inspired upswing in the trim at the rear of the windows. And even those improvements don't seem to touch the A8 drawing. I'm holding judgement until I see the real thing because from what I see, the "cool" factor seems entirely due to the distortion that is present in any good artist's concept drawings; I want to see Audi transfer those curves to the real thing much more so than they did with the A5.

If the Panamera succeeds... perhaps the Bugatti EB112 will, too?

Sep 4th 2008 10:40PM (Autoblog)
It won't... the Panamera deserves to be completely destroyed by Aston Martin's Rapide when they both hit the market. The Rapide is just so damn sexy, while the Panamera looks like a curvy 4-door Chrysler Crossfire

but I loved Myst III too :( that marble island puzzle was my single favorite myst puzzle of all time. Overall it maybe wasn't on par with Myst and Riven, but it was still a great game. And the acting was amazing too!! They had Wormtail from LOTR!

I burned a short film onto DVD for work. The project was supposed to highlight our company's culture... it ended up being a spoof on The Office.

TUAW Faceoff: Screenshot apps on the firing line

I enjoy my snapshot tool in widget form. That way, I can access it quickly, whenever I want. So I use Capture, which does a very good job and offers the same features as the built-in Grab function. But I'm not sure if it is a standalone app, or if it just gives you nice convenient Grab buttons in a Widget :/

Ask Engadget: Which are the best full-size headphones?

May 2nd 2008 12:10AM (Engadget)
The TriPorts are a waste of money. When they first came out, they were some of the best 'phones on the market, but the game has changed. I will say that for their weight, they provide excellent isolation. But on the negative, their build quality is crap for the price. The plastic near the swivels cracked when they were a month old, but BOSE replaced them under warranty. Then the plastic lining the inside of the band, above the earcups, broke. Despite the fact that I take very good care of my equipment (I bought a solid case for these headphones on day 1), they have not lasted. I have had these 'phones replaced 4 times in 4 years. I have given up. They just broke again last week. Luckily, I have a pair of Sennheisers and a pair of Sony's that both produce better, more accurate sound. The only reasons that I continued to use my TriPorts for so long were their size and their comfort. They're great for train/plane trips, and considerably more comfortable than either my Sony MDR-7506's (my current faves) and my Sennheiser HD-280 Pro's. But both these alternatives are far superior--sturdier, more accurate, provide richer bass, and cheaper.

Ask Engadget: Which are the best full-size headphones?

Sony MDR-7506. They don't have nearly the isolation of the Sennheiser SD-280 Pro, but they have bass that is a little more clear and they are far better in the mid-to-high ranges. I now use them as my base comparison for full-size headphones in the $100-$150 price range, but you can now find them for $90 on Amazon.

Any pair of Grado 'phones is good, but I have yet to find one in this price range that can stand up against the MDR-7506's. Oh, and the 7506's are NOT the same as the MDR-V6's. They use completely different drivers. The V6's are amazing 'phones as well--probably the best bass-heavy headphones on the market for the price--so they are extremely popular with DJs, but the bass can be overwhelming to the point that even notes in the mid-range can begin to bleed into one another, and their bulkiness and weight can make them uncomfortable. They look amazing, but the hinges on the ear-pieces are cheap and deteriorate pretty fast... I went through 2 pairs in a year, taking good care of them, before switching to the 7506's with a backup pair of HD-280's.

When it comes down to it, if you need really good isolation, you should go for the Sennheiser HD-280 Pro's, but know that the sound quality (specifically, the balance between the 3 ranges and the accuracy) just doesn't compare to that of the Sony MDR-7506's. On a side note, the Sennheisers look a little goofy too... not sure if that's important to you...

Proposed CAFE rules hurt Porsche, small powerful vehicles

Apr 29th 2008 11:46AM (Autoblog)
They can certainly expect a nasty letter from me as well. In general, a car's wheelbase is an OK indication of the amount of crap it can carry. But most Americans who buy large cars aren't using them to tow large loads or carry significant numbers of people. They are using them the exact same way that small car owners use their cars: to commute to work and buy groceries. So my BMW 328, which gets ~28mpg is way, way, WAY more efficient than my neighbor's Ford Excursion, which gets ~14mpg, for the same purpose. And even if we each decided to carpool, when she loads herself and 6 co-workers into her SUV, it still won't be as efficient as fitting myself and 3 others comfortable into my BMW.

This proposal also doesn't make sense because the performance cars that tend to have smaller wheelbases comprise a very small segment of the market. So fining them would have little effect producing more fuel-efficient vehicles across the industry--it would just create a new luxury tax for performance cars. Also, as other people have mentioned, this proposal discourages innovation in large-car fuel efficiency. Put simply, there is NOTHING good about this initiative. It should be canned without anyone batting an eyelid. But this is America, land of the gas-guzzling SUV, so I think we can expect this whole experience to suck.
