Duke Nukem Forever preview: A night with the king, baby

Feb 9th 2011 12:15PM (Joystiq)
The unfortunate fact that my boys dropped back in the 90s means I'll be skipping this (and Bulletstorm) altogether.

Know Your Lore: Sylvanas Windrunner, part 2

Dec 19th 2010 8:23PM (WoW)
I, for one, would like to see Sylvanas (and the Forsaken) destroyed in the lore at some point. Me and my Taurens find them to be an abomination

Homefront's 'large scale warfare' showcased in dev diary

Dec 3rd 2010 9:02PM (Joystiq)
@DjDeathCool

It's cliched because it's been done repeatedly since the actual cold war. I think the word you were looking for is "plausible."

And yeah, I'd pay for a werewolves vs vampires online fps!

Homefront's 'large scale warfare' showcased in dev diary

Dec 3rd 2010 6:48PM (Joystiq)
I'm a bit skeptical of any trailer that features devs talking at a 2:1 ratio to gameplay footage...

And socialist nations invading the United States? It was already cliched when MW2 pulled that crap, and yet the hits keep coming.

Microsoft's Toulouse explains why swastikas are banned on Xbox Live

Nov 22nd 2010 7:02PM (Joystiq)
Yes, a Swastika in Western culture is a representation of evil. No, I wouldn't allow it in my game either.

However, I think it's probably fair to say that there are more people on the planet that identify the symbol with its original meaning than with Nazis. Try taking whirl through an Asian country. Last time I was in Seoul, I saw swastikas- several stories tall - draped from buildings.

I agree with banning swastikas in a Western context - but let's tone down our world ignorance a bit.

GameStop details a bright (profitable) future with DLC

Nov 11th 2010 8:24PM (Joystiq)
Purchasing DLC directly is actually relieving. I'm sick of the bullshit points system, which effectively forces me to overpay for products.

Also, developers complain endlessly about used game sales and punish consumers who purchase second hand games by offering one time use codes, but they sure are friendly with the biggest used game retailer out there.

Microsoft's Phil Spencer not ready to embrace 3D tech yet

Oct 20th 2010 12:26PM (Joystiq)
Glad to hear this. The current push for in-home 3D entertainment is preposterous, especially these days with the economy being what it is. Console gaming is about the living room experience, and requiring groups of family and friends to each wield $150 glasses (on top of the TV itself!) is a nutty proposal.

Breakfast Topic: What would you tell your level 1 self?

Oct 1st 2010 8:18AM (WoW)
For the love of everything that is holy, do not buy weapons from the weapon vendor NPCs.

My young orc warrior spent time grinding for gold in the Barrens to afford a weapon from one of those guys. THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE

Breakfast Topic: Would you list WoW experience on your resume?

Sep 14th 2010 1:58PM (WoW)
I would laugh that person out of my office. I love video games, that's like putting "published author" when you write Dragon Ball Z fan fiction. Want a real resume? Volunteer. Get an education. Turn some heads on the way, and you'll get recommendations and contacts. Take a path that requires some grit and get cracking. And for the love of God, don't write that playing a video game makes you a good potential employee.

Opinion: An open letter to Infinity Ward

Oct 29th 2009 4:39PM (Big Download)
Amen. I do understand a matchmaking system adds ease and convenience for the general crowd, and that's cool, but nearly every PC FPS player knows that a good dedicated server isn't just a random match, it's like the neighborhood bar. Your friends often stop by, you chat with the owner, you can screw around in off hours, and generally establish your own little homey island in a sea of idiot anonymity, immaturity, and hate speech.

CoD: MW2 went from being my Must-Buy of the season to a wait for the bargain bin deal. R.I.P., PC shooters!
