Not so much as a geek-pummeling, eh? As the conclusion (and content) states: this is a geeky product. The trendy metro-geek would be hard pressed into using it daily, if at all. But it would be useful for those who don't care if they look geeky, and for those who are still using a fanny pack. The strangest thing?
But thanks for the link Engadget!
Jonathan Keim: Sorry to say this Jonathan, but I doubt it. But don't be afraid to wear one just because it's geeky. Just don't wear it everyday - use it for camping, going to the airport, etc. Folks are highly unlikely to point and murmur.
artifex: If the cords had a problem staying in the velcro, I would have mentioned it in the review. They did not. And depending on how to coil them, the are even less likely to get caught on bits.
Azzy: May your life be as blessed as your lovely comment.
Allan: Yeah. I'm sure you would walk up and smack a 6'5" 240lb guy because he was wearing on of these. Hehehe...
I had one of these 2007WFPs for about an hour. Tested the banding issues (which, by the way, were horrible), and promptly sold it.
Yes, it was bright, yes the screen was nice. But as soon as I started comparing it to my existing 19" Viewsonic, things just weren't up to my standard.
For those interested: Here's a quick and dirty overlay of the internal and external casing. I'll still be very surprised if the GBA carts don't fit just like one would expect them to (ie no gap).
Anyone know where the GB Micro FCC documents are? This would provide the perfect size comparison and help solve this cart issue.
Sorry, but I'm not buying into the "Due to the smaller form factor, all cartridges stick out an extra centimeter or so, so you're not likely to store a GBA game there in case for the off chance you decide to play it". Looking at the user manual, it talks about making sure the cartridge is fully inserted (no warnings about a small lip, or edge that might extend keeping the gamer from forcing it in further than they should). Nor does it make any sense from a design standpoint.
I've got a friend who attempted to use the Verizon version of this phone. Said that after a few days, he liked the PDA functionality, but thought that the phone implementation was horrible - and therefore returned it.
The pictures don't really do it justice. It's a whole lot prettier in person (and personally, I think it looks a lot cooler than the current Roku offerings).
Regaring the Matt's multiple library question. The SlimServer software can navigate shortcuts, mount points, or symbolic links. So all you need to do is place a link in your main music folder to any other music location and it will be indexed.
tgk has a great idea (as does Chris) - if you want to experience the capabilities, download the SlimServer software and the java client and try it out for yourself. If you like the software version, the hardware is essentially the same.
