The Daily Grind: What's the most useless MMO skill?

Oct 6th 2010 10:06AM (Massively)
I think any skill, which is levelled by repeatedly clicking a button while not doing anything else is annoying. When you see people stood in cities levelling up skills without performing an action, preparing regents or being in any particular situation isn't really skill full.

The Daily Grind: Random acts of awesome

Sep 27th 2009 3:56PM (Massively)
Quite alot in MMOs i'll help lesser able people, since i usually play as much of the game solo without relying on my guild i'll often goto lower areas of the game and ask if people need help with a dungeon or a quest.

Alot of the time they are surprised when leave the corpses for them to loot and in the case of World of Warcraft i was running Deadmines and pulling large amounts of mobs and one shotting them with an AOE. A blue and purple item dropped and i didn't think twice about clicking pass. I was a good looking Warlock in a pimp hat, my reward was being awesome :p

UK smacks Apple for another misleading iPhone commercial

Post: Just wait till the ASA finds out that drinking gallons of beer doesn't actually make you more attractive.

Actually advertising standards in the UK prohibit alcohol adverts from doing this already.

Branching Dialogue: Wild file preservation (and other Far Cry 2 stuff)

Nov 13th 2008 3:58AM (Joystiq)
Farcry2 when you first load it looks beautiful. As you are guided round your new home in a Half-Life-esque ride you learn about what's going on and before long you are struck with Malaria and fighting for pills.

Whatever your reasons for going to Africa, you are now here for Malaria Pills and Tha Jackal is but something else to do.

The world is pretty, but soon you'll be annoyed by it. Non-existant herds of Gazelle roam the Savana being stalked by invisible Lions that don't really exist. Check Points restock with bad guys EVERY bloody time you pass through them and eventualy the wonderment of sneaking up to one and killing the people becomes charging through in your wind up jeep and then stopping to kill any who dared follow you. Even the telecope you have to 'scout' check points is forgotten, because you can speed into the middle, get on your machine gun and kill everyone and then walk upto thne ammo box and save yourself 20 minutes.

Missions are dull and repetitive and you just arewn't given any reason to want to complete or do anything in the game. How come when you have to stop an Arms escort it's going round in a circle and doesn't stray from the path even when you start shootng at it? That's just laziness. But then the game is just lazy.

Halfway through the game changes to a bigger map with more of everything, but the chances of getting half way throguh without going into a) a coma or b) rage and uninstall the game then break the CD, is very rare.

Video Games Live coming to your CD and DVD player this Fall

Jun 22nd 2007 7:05PM (Joystiq)
I love the music from the video, from civilization 4. I often load the game just for the music! :p

I've seen many clips of video games live! on youtube and will definately be getting the DVD. I wonder if it will have Steve Vai doing the electric guitar on the Halo3 theme :D

Law & Order game pulled from shelves, image of murdered child to blame

Jun 22nd 2007 3:30PM (Joystiq)
What you'll find is that the parents have every right to complain, their son was brutally murdered. The worst thing is the circumstances around the case focused on computer games and movies as the reasons why the kids killed Jamie Bulger. Thats the reason i think its insensitive to have the image. It could almost be seen as Ironic or maybe a "fuck-you" if i felt that the developers realised what they had.

But i do think it was wrong to have the image included and those who haven't lost a child can not offer a negetive opinion because they can't understand what the parents feel.

I know News programs and current affiars completely mess up a proper ruling on whats right and wrong and quickly cash in on murders and stuff, but thats simply because the government has given them the right to because of fear. It sucks and is a headache, but all i know is that the circus that surrounded the case at the time is enough for to believe that the picture in a computer was a very bad move.

ELSPA: Manhunt ban is good. Us: WTF?

Jun 19th 2007 2:57PM (Joystiq)
The reason for the ban on Manhunt 2 isn't because they think Adults aren't mature enough to make the decision whether the game is good or not, but that the content is so unessecary it doesn't constitute 'ENTERTAINMENT' or any kind. Virtually murdering someone in the ways that were portrayed in the Original Manhunt, so assumably worse in the sequel, was Over The Top.

People who would want to play Manhunt2 are people who goto video sites to see hostages get their throats cut by terrorists, women stoned to death for looking at a guy that wasn't her husband and Snuff videos.

There is a line to be drawn and maybe Take Two should be praised for defining where that line is and to those people who love watching executions and snuff videos, seek help!

Penny Arcade responds to our "hideous editorial," misses the point [update 1]

Ok i'll say this again here.

Microsoft 'aren't' making a loss on the Xbox360. The Xbox 360 isnt just a console, but other hardware and software that work together.

Whilst it may be true that for £270 (what it is in the US) you get the system and some other junk, you dont get any software. So you fork out another £40.

And then of course, you bought the cheap one and find out you cant save your games, because your just an average person, perhaps buying one for your kid at christmas and now hes crying cos Perfect Dark sucks and he cant save it. So out goes another £40 on another game and ok, theres the Hard drive for £62.99 and a wireless controller, a media remote and and hell lets throw in another controller for two player. Maybe you have more than one kid...etc etc HD...etc etc Powerpack blows up killing kid etc etc

Its alot of hassle tbh. The Xbox360 is a nice piece of kit, but for £270 you cant do anything with it and end up spending alot more for things you would normally expect to buy.

And the Xbox360 is 'next-gen'. Wheres the evidence of this? High definition isnt a big enough leap to be considered next gen and the software available is only just starting to look good, but this is a year into its launch.

Does Next-Gen mean spending more and more money just to get any benefit?

As a consumer i want a hassle free time playing with new technology. I dont want to read a manual and i sure as hell dont care if it comes with High Definition if it means i have to spend £2000 on a TV just to see it and then wait a year to see games that use it properly.

The Nintendo Wii is cheaper and comes with a game. So i can plug it in and experience Next-Gen right out of the box, without spending more money.

Thats the important thing here. Thats what Nintendo aims to do and thats the right thing to do. Xbox360 should have waited a year before releasing it, but they got scared of the competition, who were meant to come out earlier this year.

And so what if the Xbox360 isnt making money on the sale of the console, apart from the extras we have to buy to actually use it, microsoft are making billions of dollars in other projects and products to counter it.

If you want a next-gen console thats cheap, accessible from the start and actually has technology worthy of being nect-gen, then Nintendo is the way to go.

Xbox released early but are still playing catch up in showcasing its technology or actually implementing it.

Its a shame, because to get anywhere close to the nintendo or ps3 in regards to their extra technology, were gonna have to pay the price of two PS3s just to use them.
