Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion transmits intro cinematic

Apr 4th 2012 3:56PM (Joystiq)
@Archebus Sure, it's better with real people. But the game takes too long to play, so I'm limited to saving/loading an AI game. The new shorter games in Rebellion don't sound satisfying by comparison.

@Uncommon Sure, fleet allocation and econ matters. But as long as you build a reasonable ratio between ship types and turtle a bit, it's hard to lose against the AI.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion transmits intro cinematic

Once upon a time, I played the Sins demo. I was hooked. I bought the game. I played it a bunch. Downloaded some mods. Played a bunch more.

And after a time, I realized that most games basically amounted to "build a lot of ships, and overpower the enemy." It almost doesn't matter which ships you build, as long as you have enough of them and keep up on research.

The game is fun, but it doesn't look like Rebellion really fixes the core issue, which in my mind, is that the ships aren't really distinguished enough, especially when you're zoomed out. Yes, space is vast, but this is a game, and having to choose between zoomed in, nifty, cinematic gameplay which is essentially "watch but not play" or zoomed out and everything is an icon... That, and you should have to do more planning than "send this big group over there"

I probably won't get Rebellion (overpriced IMO, compared to the cost of what they've already released, which I've barely played since Entrenchment, despite owning Diplomacy). But if they ever make Sins 2... I might be in the market. Fingers crossed it'll be good.
