Mac game releases slow in 2006

Dec 7th 2006 12:01AM (Joystiq)
When I bought my Mac, I had to come to terms with the fact that I wouldn't be able to play games on it. This wasn't that hard for me, because most of the games that I wanted to play were released for my Xbox.

Now, a year after my first Mac purchase, I am the proud owner of a MacBook, and I decided to give Boot Camp a try to revisit my lost PC gaming days. Installing Boot Camp was fine, but I had to attempt installing Windows twice before it worked, and it was an ugly and cumbersome process. Even without taking the troublesome Windows installation into account, I was frustrated using Windows, and it only served to remind me of why I made the switch in the first place. I played a couple games, and even started downloading Half-Life 2 (the only thing I miss about Windows), but I couldn't even bear to wait for it to download. I deleted my Windows partition 4 days after I created it (both very simple processes), and my hard drive is now, once again, 100% Mac.

In response to the view that Boot Camp will deteriorate Mac gaming, I disagree. Most people who actually switch to Mac do it because they are frustrated with Windows, even though they will have to give up their games. My theory is that games are the only thing keeping Windows going, and if/when the Macintosh becomes a comparable gaming platform, Windows will inevitabley die, or cease to be what it is today.

Until then, I'll happily play my 360. After all, I don't hate Microsoft, or even Windows. I just think that Apple and Macintosh are both better.

I think the Lego Star Wars games are both extremely well done and addicting. I haven't enjoyed playing a video game this much since Banjo-Kazooie. Batman was one of the few cartoons I loved to watch as a kid, and I can't wait for this game to come out.
