Bullshit, the only ones whining about this are the big developers and publishers. Small ones are not affected. But furthermore it was a "tax exemption" that other types companies didn't get. Of course in a time of crisis will they stop doing that.
But every time "they threaten" talent will leave en mass. When they actually don't pay the talent that much (as is usual the jerks in management get the most, while the "talent" has to work Crunch-time almost constantly and hope they get payd the overtime.). So if they mean by talent that the management will leave I say.. CHANGE IT RIGHT NOW! Let them go :P.
@sparkster Shows how little you know, it is actually better as the old Xbox also ran a modified version of Windows 2000. And Windows 2000 was alot less safe then the newer incarnations. The one they used for the Xbox was a version that was stripped down to the bare minimum. If they do the same again with the next one, it doesn't have to be a bad choice at all.
Infact making an entire OS from scratch will usually mean more errors rather then less.
@MW49350 hey I know GM makes nothing from the car you sell second hand, now they will introduce a Tire pass, you can only drive it on new tires if you get the key to unlock the wheels from the car!
And don't give me the "but you have to maintain a car" crap, because there are ALOT of third party suppliers of parts out there. Something that cannot be said for online passes!
Servers cost money? BULLLSHIT! If anybody wanted to remember, EA didn't want to go on Xbox Live originally (with the previous Xbox), because they couldn't run their own servers on the service. MS gave them their way and allowed in the API to make contact with servers of third parties (took quite some time, before that you ran on a Peer 2 Peer basis.
So please EA that is a BULLSHIIT! Excuse, Infact I am still pretty sure that we still will host most of our games ourselves and oyu only do some score checking yourself and some dedicated Servers maybe.
In the PC world running your own servers always was the case until Valve decided to want control over it. And now, like beaten wife syndrome, we go"OMG WE LOVE STEAM!". Get rid of your beaten wife Syndrome people, don't buy these games! And if you do buy it second hand, go look online for cracks if you run them on PC, there are plenty of tunneling networks out there!
DUH! Who ever didn't expect that to happen was an idiot. the two have been sitting in that tree for sooooo long together that even the three was screaming "GET A ROOM ALREADY YOU TWO!".
@fskalfd9sa Sigh... Ecco .. what has become of you...Whoring yourself out to Spammers... I tell you SEGA's third party move made nothing but victims out of you and your friends didn't it.
Here.... *throws the Dolphin a Fish*... to hold you over for a while.
@dakun Crunch time is never understandable as it doesn't serve any function. The amount of errors employees make by the longer hours in Crunch time are so horrendous that you will require more time to fix them and you aren't any further in your progress when the end comes.
Crunch time is just some manager trying to A. Either get a Bonus (Look what I did I made them work a lot more for the same money) or B. Trying to hide his errors in time-management by putting the blame or the pressure on the Employees. (If they fail it is their fault they didn't work enough, and if it doesn't fail his "genius" still made the deadline).
@conman30 Microsoft is not a greedy company. All companies are just greedy ;). By saying MS is greedy you say it like the others are there for charity ;). This is not true, as all companies look for the highest turnover for the littlest investment.
Whether it is Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Disney... it doesn't matter they all do it. Infact if you talk about Graphics over Gameplay, Sony usually has a hand of that. Not that they don't make good games, but during Console launches they flaunt numbers as if they mean something. They did it with the PSone vs the Saturn, the PSTwo vs the Dreamcast and the PSthree vs the 360. The numbers don't mean anything but they do bring it like "OMG LOOK AT THIS NUMBER! SEE HOW MUCH THE COMPETITION SUCKS!"
All companies are like that, and do shit like that. The best thing you can do is just get used to it, and only buy the console which has the games you like. I think Rare is mostly in a drought as they are working on the Launch titles for the Next Xbox (this usually takes a few years, and they did the same with the first Xbox, after the Conkers Remake, Rare basically moved the two Xbox titles to the 360 and still needed 2 years of work on them).
Since these titles where called bland they now are taking a bit longer. While PD:0 wasn't that bad in multpilayer (was alot of fun even, but people only looked to GFX to put it down) and Kameo was a great title but again was held up to ridiculous standards. I mean take Banjo Nuts and Bolts, a really nice game, but people had such huge standards of it that it was a let down on that alone.
But I do agree that MS needs to cater LESS to the Japanese. Let them stew a bit and return to the same formula, gamewise not design marketing wise, as the original one. More games from their own studios and using their HUGE backlog in IP's. To make some good sequels. Midtown Madness 4, Crimson Skies 3 (1 on PC 2 on Original Xbox), Letting Rare do their own magic, Let Lionhead do their magic. Ontop of that try making more studios that think of new IP's besides Halo ;).
