Circuit City offers free copies of Shadowrun to Halo 2 Vista buyers

Jun 20th 2007 12:11AM (Joystiq)
I bought Halo 2 vista at Circuit City for $39.99, and decided to try and see if they'd let me have the 360 version of Shadowrun for free instead of the Vista version. Sure enough, they scanned H2V for $39.99 and shadowrun 360 rang up for FREE. I'm very happy with that deal.

Halo 3 Starry Night commercial

Bungie has already confirmed that the new Assault Rifle in Halo 3 is NOT the MA5B. According to 1up the new AR is called the MA5C:

"Only one of those three characteristics of the MA5B remain: it's still fully automatic.

With the MA5C Assault Rifle, the clip-size has been drastically reduced from 60 to 32, and as a trade-off, the weapon's accuracy at long-range has been increased. Why the revisions to the Assault Rifle? Well, the starting weapon in Halo 2 -- the SMG -- didn't exactly work out how Bungie wanted it to. Jamie Griesemer, lead designer on Halo 3 (you know, that "30-seconds of fun" guy), points to the two previous starting weapons and their problems. "It shouldn't do headshots... and it shouldn't be dual wieldable," according to Griesemer. The new MA5C Assault Rifle allows neither."

Fix for 360's 1080p troubles is being worked on

I have a Samsung LN-S3251D television and I bought it with the intention of using the VGA cable for my 360 hookup. I had even purchased a better Monster 360 VGA cable because after trying the MS one the colors were washed out and not nearly as rich and bright as when using the component connection on the 360. I have previously tried a different Phillips LCD television before buying my Samsung and experienced the same problem but I wrote it off as probably being a VGA problem on a cheap TV.

Since I've had this TV, I got it in March when it came out, I've never used the VGA connection for my 360 because of the "washed out" effect and although it does look very sharp and smooth I just don't get the rich bright color I get with the component connection. I even hooked up my PC in order to check if it wasn't my VGA input on my TV and my PC looked great on my TV with the VGA connection.

I really need to start using the VGA connection for my 360 because the 360's using the only component input on my tv which I want to soon use for a Wii. Does anyone have any more information on the "washed out" problem and any other workarounds. I'll tell you now that I've messed with every setting for color and brightness on my tv with no success in getting the VGA 360 hookup to look as good as component.

Controls get a new look in Halo 3

Sep 19th 2006 7:32PM (Joystiq)
In response to comment #11, OXM was the only magazine to even mention dual-wielding energy swords and that was in an article with their Halo 3 wishlist. Dual-wielding will be in the next game, and you won't be able to dual-wield energy swords. Although dual-wielding swords does exist in the Halo Universe as seen in the Halo Graphic Novel, Bungie has commented that they specifically put it into the graphic novel because it would never work in the actual game.

I also have to agree with comment #13 by Pat. The Weekly Update specifically states that the new AI is so effective that they might have to intentionally tone it down for balancing. Kevin, although you quoted Frankie as saying he "spazzed" you didn't take into account the beginning of the quote which states "the slightest change" indicating that the change is not major yet causes him to spaz because he's probably so used to playing with the same control that's been in use for almost 5 years. I love joystiq, and being a Halo enthusiast I appreciate when a blog reports on interesting points on the Bungie Weekly Update regarding gameplay because I feel gameplay is outshined by the hype on all other things Halo, at the same time I was very disappointed with this blog entry. I feel it was sensationalized as previously stated, inaccurate, and what especially disappoints me is that I've seen it done before with other entries.

Regarding the new control scheme, anything can happen but you can bet if the control had remained the same for the 360 the scheme would have remained the same. The ONLY reason it's changing is because of the 360 bumper controls and it will change for the better. The biggest problem with the Halo controls on the xbox is that you had to take your thumb off the right thumbstick in order to melee which means you couldn't aim your melee. Contrary to popular belief, this is the reason the default Halo control scheme is not as standard as people imagine, many skilled players prefer the Boxer scheme in both games in order to accurately attack with their melees.

Sorry for the long comment, check out the above URL for extensive coverage of all Halo 3 information in my clan's blog.

Is the BlackBerry Pearl shipping, or not?

Sep 17th 2006 10:14PM (Engadget Mobile)
I work at a T-Mobile retail store and we've had the Pearl in stock since at least a week before launch at our store. We've sold many and have plenty left. Most stores actually have good quantities so I would recommend you go to T-Mobile.com and use the store locator to find your nearest TMO retail store. Call them and make sure they have them in stock before you make the trip.
