Ford's always done that. They have an 'all new design', then a revision 2.0 of the design. Works well enough for them.

I think Mercury's fate was confirmed when they said there wouldn't be a new Sable. Mercury definitely needs to go, and Lincoln needs to more a little more upmarket.
