DS Daily: Stylus-plus

Aug 2nd 2007 9:39AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
This is quite off topic, but I could not think of a better place to ask this question.

Has anyone out there tried the Shock! Shell for their DS lite? If so, do you like it? How is the quality in comparison to the stock DS lite shell? How are the hinges and the buttons?

The hinge on my DS is broken, and I want to get a new shell for it. As far as I can tell, it's either this Shock! shell, or send it back to Nintendo for repair/replacement.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Teetdogs, as a copywriter, I hate it when people nitpick my work. 99.99% of the stuff I catch in newspapers, websites, magazines, and everywhere else I don't mention. I simply thought it was fascinating that there were two typos in the same article, and that the typos could fix each other. I don't think I've ever seen that before. I almost wonder if the writer did it on purpose to see if anyone would notice.

Your missing C is in this sencence:

"At this point in the came it's not unfair to expect your storage array to be smart enough to serve its own content"

I'll trade you my C for your G . . . ;)

Looks like they're down in Moab, in Arches National Park. That would be cool if they added a street view of that area.

Utah lawmakers condemning open WiFi networks

Wow, the comments in this post amaze me. If the things said about Mormons in this post were said about other groups, there would be a cry of outrage.

And for the people who live in Utah and hate it, why not move elsewhere? If you're under 18, fine, you're probably stuck. But if you're older than 18, why not just leave. What's the big deal?

As you have probably surmised, I do live in Utah. I love it. I am Mormon. I love it. You're not Mormon. That's equally cool. Whatever suits you is fine with me. I respect that. I'd ask the same of you.

Xbox 360 Elite hands-on video

To the person that said they'd buy a premium for $350--Dell is selling a premium with Gears of War for $400 right now. If you grab a coupon for 10% off from ebay (I got mine for $2), you can get a premium and Gears of War for $360. That's about as smokin' a deal as you can get. Basically a premium for $300, and Gears of War for its regular price. It pushed me over the edge. I think it will be arriving to day. Woo hoo!

SXSW: Writing for the Next Generation of Games

Mar 26th 2007 11:21PM (Joystiq)
I am writing some serial fiction based in the Guild Wars world. One of the things I have found very challenging is that what makes a game fun is not necessarily what makes a good story. Honestly, if I wrote most of what actually happened in the game, the story would be painfully boring. It's plenty of fun to play, but it would be terrible to read about engaging and taking down mob after mob.

At the very least, I've come to the conclusion that Compelling, interesting action makes games fun. Compelling, interesting characters make stories fun.

The whole process has given me new respect for games that actually tell a story that keeps me engaged. And really, there aren't many of them.

Salt Lake City: Mormons, skiing ... and gamers

Plenty of Mormons at the Protocol 42 LAN parties. Same with Freak Fests, and Kill Incs, back in the good old days.

What's broken with MMOs and their combat?

Mar 9th 2007 10:50AM (Joystiq)
The closest thing to an MMO that I have played is Guild Wars, and that is really the only thing I have played for almost two years. Generally, the combat is ridiculously easy, enough so that even in high-level areas my friends and I make it a habit of taking a smaller party, just to make things difficult. Also, the penalty for failure isn't too terrible, although if you start dying a lot things become next to impossible to accomplish.
