@LordFarkward

Um, I don't think fred was being a troll at all. Microsoft is also holding a press event tomorrow with similar aims as Apple's event. I was also curious as whether Engadget was going to liveblog that event, but I guess it would be fruitless considering we know a lot of information regarding that event already.

In any case, I'd still enjoy a good liveblog of both events.

Ask Engadget: What's the best HDD-based portable media player out there?

Jul 4th 2008 3:19AM (Engadget)
I cast my vote for the Cowon A2 or A3. I bought the A2 when it first came out and it has really satisfied all my needs for video playback. Not only do you get superb video playback, but audio quality is excellent as well.

If you don't want to go with a lesser-known brand like Cowon, then I have to suggest the Microsoft Zune. I own and still use my Zune 30 for long trips and it really is a fantastic device, espcially with its tight integration with Media Center and the Zune software. The Zune marketplace isn't all that bad too, and the only thing holding back the Zune would be software performance. But, I say again, the hardware is extremely solid and it contains some pretty powerful innards.
