IGA to deliver in-game ads on PS3, starts with Guitar Hero

Sep 30th 2008 7:43PM (Joystiq Playstation)
If you think that Activision is in any danger of going under, or that Guitar Hero isn't making them money hand over fist, then you're living in some sort of weird parallel universe where game companies with more money than God Himself are still at risk of going under.

Seriously, there's every reason in the world to think that advertisements will lower the cost of games. There are plenty of games that are entirely ad-supported, at no cost to the consumer. Besides, Activision will be making a solid profit on each game sold, so this is just extra cash for them. God, they must be having a good laugh at feeding us lines about "enhanced realism" and whatnot.

IGA to deliver in-game ads on PS3, starts with Guitar Hero

How exactly do gamers "win" in your "win-win" concept? Fact is there's no benefit to those who play the game. The only impact this has is a fatter lining for the wallets of the folks at Activision.

LittleBigPlanet confirmed region free by SCEE rep

Aug 23rd 2008 11:30AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Man, this is great news. I mean, I know we haven't done anything to affect the outcome, but as an American gamer living abroad, this feels like a victory. If nothing else, from the feeling that Sony has people like me in mind -- they obviously wanted to keep the game as global as possible. This is the main reason I bought my PS3, and one of the fundamental reasons I love it so.

Logitech unveils premium peripherals for Guitar Hero: World Tour

Aug 4th 2008 9:09PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Not to be a stickler for accuracy, but isn't the Joystiq article more appropriately titled? There appears to be no unveiling of the actual instruments, more of an announcement that they will be made. When I hear unveiling, I want to see some pictures.

PS Store video service not coming to Europe 'this year'

Jul 17th 2008 10:28AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Not good enough for me! I'm in Japan! I wonder when we'll get such a store. If ever. Ah well.

MS wants to be first out of the gate with Xbox 720

Jun 16th 2008 6:15PM (Joystiq Xbox)
whether you like Dustin or not, I think Jake is right about Sony's plans for the PS4. I don't know if it'll take seven years (because they won't want to be far behind the 720), but the PS2 is still enjoying strong sales, and as it was released in 2000, that means it has already had a strong 8 year life cycle (where the Xbox had, what, half that, right?). So Jake, rather tactlessly, was pointing out Dustin's mistake.

Signed MGS4 Gunmetal bundle on sale at eBay

Jun 13th 2008 7:10PM (Joystiq Playstation)
To me, a signature has no meaning if I didn't get it myself. I mean, what is some ink compared to actually meeting the folks who signed it? I *might* consider paying $5,000 for the opportunity to meet Kojima, but definitely not for something he just scribbled his name on.

Fanswag: Battlefield: Bad Company demo codes [update]

Hey guys, send the code over my way!

Here come the drums in this Guitar Hero World Tour trailer

May 24th 2008 9:52PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Even to a drummer who has Rock Band, this looks cool! I'm so excited that drums are becoming more and more mainstream. I'll admit I'm no frickin rock star yet on the drums, so I love an experience that helps me learn and at the same time makes me feel like a Chad Smith or Travis Barker. GH:WT seems it'll only make that bad-ass feeling that much more awesome.

Guitar Hero World Tour officially unveiled

May 21st 2008 6:20PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Well I don't know about you guys, but I live in a tiny apartment in Japan, and my real drum kit takes up about 1/6th of my apartment. That didn't stop me from importing Rock Band at a huge cost, and it won't stop me from getting both this and Rock Revolution either. I play Rock Band every night for at least half an hour. It's just a crapload of fun. Though I hope that A) both games have a non-bundled option from the start and B) their online community is more active than Rock Band's.
