Why Read the Book Before the Movie Version?

Apr 21st 2010 4:04PM (Cinematical)
The other problem is you think you know where the story is going and then something in the book is different than the movie and you might have a hard time adjusting. Took me forever to read Jurassic Park after seeing the movie first. I kept expecting things to happen that were in the movie but not the book. I was able to read the Lost World with no trouble because the movie came a couple years later.

Why Read the Book Before the Movie Version?

Apr 21st 2010 2:12PM (Cinematical)
The movie is rarely as good as the book. Take the Lost World as an example. Characters got blended together, eliminated, created just for the movie. They used stuff from the first book in the second movie. The only things from the book in the movie are the second island, a few characters and some of that hanging over the cliff scene. That book is FAR better than the movie.

Look at The Bourne Identity. The only similarities between the book and movie are the title, spy with amnesia, and a girl. Half the plot went missing and as the sequels were made it branched even farther away from the stories the author created. I make the point that you could take the original books he wrote and make 3 more movies. The only thing the sequels use from the books are the titles. The girl that dies in the second movie is Bourne's wife in the book and survives the whole thing.

Seeing the movie version of a book you read is a fun way to compare how you pictured it to what is on screen.

iPad 3G coming by May 7th

Apr 19th 2010 9:41AM (Engadget)
@summerboy18 I am thinking we will be getting them this Saturday. As of now my page still is saying "Ships: Late April" but I am hearing others have been charged and your status has changed.

4/24 looks to be the release date for in store.

I have been patiently waiting (and living on Ramen noodles) but I know it'll be worth it.

Marvel vs Capcom 3 for Xbox 360 & PS3 announced, along with Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2 [update]

Apr 17th 2010 8:07PM (Joystiq)
I too am excited for a Rearmed sequel. Any word if the old guys from Grin might use their new studio to make it? I thought the first one was a great homage to the Nintendo game though I haven't beaten it cause I can't get past the boss that shoots you from random angles.

I was saddened to see the PS3/360 version do so poorly in sales. It had it's moments but I see why people didn't like it/ After a while I just couldn't stand the controls anymore.

Apple holding iPhone OS 4 event, April 8th!

Apr 5th 2010 12:45PM (Engadget)
@Peter Church To be fair it will be announced on the 8th but there's no confirmation it will be released that day. They may say it'll be out in June with the next iPhone.

Curious though: if the iPad runs on iPhone OS then this announcement will have an effect on that too right?

Yes, These Exist: 'Splash Too' and 'The Jerk, Too'

Disney did something like this too. I can't remember the year but they tried to sequelize Phenomenon into a tv series by calling in "Phenomenon, too". Same premise with the tumor but the main character had some control over the growth. I'm not sure if the main character was George O'malley or not.

Apple's iPad: are you getting one?

Apr 1st 2010 5:20PM (Engadget)
This will definitely sound petty but I don't like that the 3G version is out a month later. That is the version I am getting on day one.

I am sure I will get down voted for saying that though and I will accept my punishment.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions: The Wish List

Mar 30th 2010 11:48PM (Joystiq)
My iPhone has this'll in the dictionary so I'm guessing it's a real word. Though with the be missing this'll still doesn't sound right.

Found Footage: iPhone alphabet made from 540 apps

Mar 19th 2010 12:49PM (TUAW.com)
Interesting but flawed like the others have pointed out. Only 25 letters and therefore it's only 500 apps.

Weird that they claimed 540 apps. Was there 2 screens that were cut out?

8-bit Left 4 Dead guy's latest project: Mega Man 9 HD Remix

Mar 6th 2010 11:45PM (Joystiq)
If the guy made the game look like the original Mega Man's artwork from the first 2 NES games I'd buy it in a heartbeat. THAT is the version to make. This does look nice though.
