Jan 3rd 2011 2:51PM (TUAW.com)Giving us DRM-free music is great, but it's only the first step. Movies and TV need to be DRM-free as well. Then you can brag about how you've freed us from the shackles....

"Likewise, per-transaction fees here are between $.30 and $.34, double the $.15 fee of the Square."
Square does have a slightly higher "discount rate", but the per transaction fee is half what Intuit is charging.
FYI, credit card companies usually charge 4 fees to every merchant:
1. A one-time setup fee. Intuit: $179. Square: $0.
2. A monthly fee. Intuit $12.95. Square: $0.
3. A per transaction fee. Intuit: $0.30 to $0.34. Square: $0.15
4. A per transaction percentage. Intuit: 1.7% to 3.7%. Square: 2.75% to 3.5%

Aug 26th 2010 11:03PM (TUAW.com)It has a high upfront fee, a high monthly fee, and a high per-transaction fee. This it typical of Intuit -- as anyone who has used Quickbooks can tell you.
Square, on the other hand, has no upfront fee, no monthly fee, and lower per-transaction fees. They may not have the name recognition of Intuit and the Quicken / Quickbooks brands, but they're much more consumer friendly.
I'm sure it will be an uphill battle, but I really hope Square prevails in this battle...

Aug 6th 2010 9:50AM (TUAW.com)Come on Apple! Give smaller developers a chance.
Angry Birds doesn't need any more exposure. How about smaller apps that are only getting a dozen downloads a day now instead of YET AGAIN featuring apps that everyone already has?
All this does is ensure the rich get richer.
