Verizon's 4G LTE SIM in the wild

Jul 19th 2010 1:48AM (Engadget)
So does this phone use CDMA for voice communication, and a GSM-like LTE for data? What if LTE isn't available?

Nice win. But I don't believe the team Oreca run 908 has the same pace as the factory backed cars. That said, even before last year, the Peugeots probably should have won Le Mans. Reliability and weather conditions have a lot to do with who will win. And don't forget luck.

Report: Some owners say Toyota recall fix not curing sudden acceleration problem

That is the correct thing to do. Do all the drivers know to do that? Probably not. One of the people who testified in front of congress claims to have tried to shift to neutral with no effect, then tried to shift to reverse.

If these cars have shift-by-wire systems then it is theoretically possible to be able to physically shift without the transmissions actually shifting. These systems should all allow you to shift to neutral shifting to neutral at high speeds (they should all keep you from shifting to reverse).

Porsche 911 Turbo S unveiled with 530 HP of goodness

Feb 8th 2010 4:09PM (Autoblog)
Variants are fairly easy (minus changes from year to year).

There are 3 main types

Carrera - Base model with rear wheel drive
Carrera 4 - AWD with a slightly wider body
Turbo - AWD with a turbo

Each of those come in both hard top and cabriolet (convertible), and each of those come in standard and S variants. Coming out to 4 variants total (base, cabriolet, S, S cabriolet) for each type (or 12 variants so far)

The Carrera 4's also come in Targa (and Targa S), which has a glass roof.

Then we have the GT line. Which are all RWD. The GT3, has a naturally aspirated engine, and based off the Carrera 4 body. The GT2, is a turbo based on the Turbo body. The GT3 also has a track ready version called the RS, which is lighter than the regular GT3.

120GB Xbox 360 HDD discounted in Europe 'while supplies last'

Feb 4th 2010 1:32PM (Joystiq)
I still have my 20GB HDD. I still have enough room to install 1 game at a time (which you really need to do because the DVD drive is so loud). It just means I don't buy anything any more on XBL. Other than console exclusives, or "clearly better on the 360", I use my PS3 much more.

I'm considering getting the 250GB HDD when it comes out, depending on the pricing. If it's under $130, I would seriously consider getting it.

10 Food Trends of the Future

Dec 31st 2009 1:06PM (Slashfood)
"Molecular Gastronomy" isn't a fad. Perhaps calling it such is one, but "modern techniques" are not. Things like immersion circulators are tools to make cooking more precise, just like an oven is more precise and than coals. Nothing is stopping you from putting a pot on water with a thermometer and constantly adjusting it to maintain the temperature you want, just like nothing is stopping you from using a dutch-oven and coals to bake.

These modern food additives are no different than the baking powder or cream of tartar people have been using for ages.
