Bad Company 2, Mass Effect 2 top Steam best-seller list

Jan 27th 2010 10:59AM (Joystiq)
I hate to say it but I'm not a fan of the "streamlining" they did for ME2.

My character feels like a cookie cutter knockoff of whatever class I picked. No point in calling your character Shepard, just call him "Soldier" or "Infiltrator" since there is little to no customization.

I mean before, I could completely ignore electronics or decrypting if I wanted, or vice versa, could focus highly on them.

Now? Yeah no character planning reqiured whatsoever. Just shoot crap like every other 3rd person shooter out there and watch everything arbitrarily scale up with no real purpose for doing so.

I mean the stuff you fight is pretty much going to be in your level range just because of how the game is paced, what's the point of even having a leveling system if not for customizing your points to your own choosing?

They gutted the mechanics of the RPG genre, and left the dialogue RPG.

This game is what LARP is to Pen & Paper RPG's

That said, it's still a fun game to play, but I won't recommend it to anyone that really liked the 1st ME's character development mechanics.

ME2 feels like a console port, ME1 didn't

I could manually crouch, run, find cover, all separately. now everything is bound to the space bar.

I think some WoW player who loves night elves got ahold of the control scheme.

and you can't even talk to your party members on missions now! wtf?! ME1, you could, Dragon age, oh hell yes... this game? nah, they follow you around with no option to interact. Another strike against the RPG credo.

Oh well, back to playing it.

Interplay's 'Fallout MMO' beta to begin shortly before world ends

Jan 25th 2010 12:49PM (Joystiq)
Stillborn company throwing a rope at some fresh blood company in Bul-freakin-garia hoping that they'll make a game to make them the profits they need to be relevant in the game industry again.

Sorry but this has to be a bluff, either that or interplay is as stupid as it is selfish with the franchise.

The best of WoW.com: January 14th-20th

Who cares about WoW? apparently nobody given that you have one comment on this post while the others rake in a lot more. I hate this game.

Sega offers up a mess of new Resonance of Fate screens

Jan 19th 2010 12:55AM (Joystiq)
Hopefully they (Sega) don't pull a "Bayonetta" on this and do a halfass job with putting it on the ps3 while showing favortism to the xbox again.

I refuse to play Bayonetta on that premise alone given the bad reviews on the ps3 version. Don't halfass it, I dont support companies that halfass it.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 PC beta dated, detailed

Jan 8th 2010 4:50PM (Joystiq)
Getting this out of the way 1st, I'm a pc gamer thru and thru, and own a ps3 for games I feel are paced well enough to enjoy from my couch. This doesn't include games that involve me being on the edge of my seat making sure I don't get my head blown off and dodging grenades.

MW2 was a disappointment, too short for singleplayer, just felt like the longest tutorial ever, artificially generated controversy hype machine, no dedicated servers on pc, I heard wonderful things about the missles. Honestly the multiplayer pundits are part of the WoW crowd as far as I can tell "ZOMG I GOT AN XP BAR!" and bam, that hamster in your head starts making a mad dash for it.

I'll take the progression system based on tactical squad based gameplay over the twitch xp grind that MW2 seems to embrace.

Destructable environments are fun too :)

GameStop shares drop 15% following holiday sales info release

Jan 8th 2010 4:29PM (Joystiq)
People are starting to wise up to gamestop's predatory pricing tactics. They could go under and I wouldn't care, they're springing up like starbucks around here and the employees seem clueless and disinterested half the time and only interested in pushing preorders and subscriptions.

I think it's garbage when I can go online or even down the road to a smaller chain (Hastings) and pick up used titles for sometimes half the price they want.

if it's 30$ at gamestop, it's 15$ at hastings, and even less than that online, but sometimes instant gratification is what I want.

DJ Guetta references work on DJ Hero 2

Jan 1st 2010 11:01AM (Joystiq)
I was really interested in DJ hero till I previewed the tracks, if it weren't such a hip hop sausage party game I would have got it. I think they need to spend some time with Deadmau5, Justice, Digweed, and others of that caliber for their tracklisting for me to give a damn about this franchise. Noisia was a step in the right direction at least.

What's in a Name: Blizzard Entertainment

Dec 7th 2009 7:39PM (Joystiq)
They've already stated numerous times that it will be a New IP, unrelated to any current franchises they have published. So nothing to do with WC/SC/Diabo

so don't get your hopes up.
