OQO crawls back from the dead, releasing Model 03 in China this month (Updated)
Aug 3rd 2010 2:06AM (Engadget)These new-fangled tablets miss the mark for me. I use an active digitizer.
PS3 firmware 3.41 said to be causing hard drive upgrade problems
Jul 31st 2010 11:30AM (Engadget)If Nintendo's firmware messes up Homebrew, that does not have any effect on legit users with unmodded systems.
Compared to Sony's track record of system bricking and removing features, Nintendo looks damn near pristine.
PS3 firmware 3.41 said to be causing hard drive upgrade problems
Jul 31st 2010 6:15AM (Engadget)Agreed. It is really sad that I am scared about these updates. It honestly makes me not want to update my PS3 at all.
Why is it that Wii updates are infrequent and painless and 360 updates are nearly instant, but my PS3 chugs along painfully? Each firmware, I'm afraid I'll lose some feature or brick my system?
And if my backwards-compatible system ever dies, I'm scared It will be replaced by one that won't play my PS2 games.

Sony refuses to get caught up in a price war with Kindle, intends to compete on quality
Jul 30th 2010 6:42AM (Engadget)I don't feel bad for Sony at all. I've spent the last several years watching them trip over their arrogance time and time again. Sony has a number of large corporate culture issues that keep festering at the core of their business.
Maybe one day a new, humble, focused, and wizened Sony will emerge, but I have a feeling they have a long way to fall before they give up on their decaying hubris.

Jul 30th 2010 6:35AM (Joystiq)Here is a link to the Colors! gallery, for those who haven't heard of the app. You'll need a Flash Card for the DS, like an R4, or the iPhone version of the program.

Original Shining Force now available on App Store
Jul 30th 2010 6:17AM (Joystiq)Agreed. I love Shining Force, and would rather replay it than many of the newer games we've had foisted upon us.
This game may also work well on the iThing. It is turn-based, and requires no real-time interaction.

Jul 30th 2010 6:14AM (Joystiq)I much prefer Colors on the DS to the iPhone version due to the precision of the stylus.
Sony refuses to get caught up in a price war with Kindle, intends to compete on quality
Jul 30th 2010 5:11AM (Engadget)Exactly. In the 80s, Sony's name meant quality. These says it just means overpriced.
Nintendo posts Q1 loss on strong Yen and lower DS prices
Jul 30th 2010 12:13AM (Engadget)Not that screen resolution is any indication of how fun a game is though. I'd rather play great games at 320x240 than a lot of the drek that has been published in High Definition.
According to consumer buying habits, I'm not alone.
Nintendo posts Q1 loss on strong Yen and lower DS prices
Jul 30th 2010 12:12AM (Engadget)If the screen resolution, the number of pixels the system has to fill each frame, is YOUR indication of a system's horsepower (and somehow overall worth?) then the 3DS is the system for you. It pushes out more than twice the number of pixels as the PSP.
Nintendo 3DS Screen Fidelity:
Top Screen - 192,000 Pixels
Bottom Screen - 76,800 Pixels
Total Pixels - 268,800
PSP Screen Fidelity
130,560 Pixels
By resolution/screen fidelity alone, the 3DS more than doubles the output of the PSP.
