You're absolutely correct about real sports having more innate drama than any "story" tacked on to it. That said, this is just a video game, after all, and I can't blame EA for trying to reach a broader audience; they're in the business to make money, after all. That said, if the fight mechanics in this game are at least as good as the ones in the last Fight Night, AND if we can take a fighter through the ranks without having to play through the story, I'm definitely picking up a copy of this.
The gameplay looks great and the graphics are much updated. Now. . .let's hear some voice work to see whether that's been as improved as much as the rest of it. So far, though, so good. . .I'm hopeful.
Thanks for the article; I enjoyed reading more about this game and it's nice to see someone, who's as unabashed a gamer as Schilling is, making a game that he, himself. would want to play. Let's just hope that he doesn't start using the phrase, "emotionally engaging" over and over and over and. . .
That said, a small writing nitpick: if you say that you can't argue that the game has potential, you're really saying that the game so obviously DOESN'T have potential that you can't even make the argument that it does. I think what you meant is that you can't argue that the game doesn't have potential (because it so clearly does). : )
