1UP FM lives on (sort of) as Rebel FM

Jan 9th 2009 4:40AM (Joystiq)
Hey guys, Arthur here. Torrents are active, libsyn is fine. The site should be ok, but if it's down and you want to find the podcast, there's a neogaf thread on it that has mirrors and such. I speak for the guys when I tell you thanks for all the support.

Analyst blames Xbox RRoD on MS-designed graphics chip

Jun 11th 2008 2:17PM (Joystiq)
Nvidia refused to renegotiate the price of the GPU in the original Xbox over the lifetime of the product. It was one of the reasons that they continued to lose money on the system throughout its lifetime. That's why they purchased the design for the Xenos, so they'd be able to commission redesigns and contract out production for the part elsewhere. It allowed them price flexibility. Basically, Microsoft blames Nvidia for costing them billions.

Analyst blames Xbox RRoD on MS-designed graphics chip

Wait. I was under the distinct impression that ATi designed the 360's GPU under guidelines from Microsoft, and that Microsoft bought the designs and holds the rights to them. Is that crap? Because that's what all of their press materials stated leading up to launch. I'm pretty sure there are ATi logos on the packaging as well, although don't quote me.

Ubisoft reports quarterly sales up 25%, delays four

Oct 23rd 2007 3:05PM (Joystiq)
10.00 bucks says the one of the postponed games is Haze on the PS3. A quarter says another is Assassin's Creed on PS3. Haze being delayed would be a good thing, I assure you.

BioShock's helping hand to Unreal Engine 3's image

Aug 29th 2007 1:37PM (Joystiq)
That would be all fine and good, but Bioshock was largely developed on a heavily modified version of the Unreal Engine 2.5. It was moved to Unreal Engine 3 mainly to take advantage of project management and iteration features. And surprise surprise, another game that "uses UE3" that couldn't make its original release date.

Joyswag: Win a copy of BioShock, get it overnighted (Part 1)

Aug 16th 2007 12:29PM (Joystiq)
This game excites me most because it's possibly the first game I've ever seen to directly tackle an incredibly controversial system of morality that polarizes its supporters and enemies. It takes itself seriously enough to critique Objectivism in a compelling way, which is especially ironic because Ayn Rand used a similar story to make the same philo sophy appealing to people. It's satire and parody used in the best way possible, to seriously criticize an important social concept, and in doing so, it might as well be a direct rebuttal to Roger Ebert as well. It's the game we as a subculture have been waiting for for a quarter century.

And yeah, shooting electricity into puddles is pretty great.

TimeShift changes history Oct. 30 on PC, Xbox 360

Aug 8th 2007 5:52PM (Joystiq)
This is something like the third version of this game in three years. Unfortunately, it's lost more and more distinctive visual aspects as time has gone on. I will say this though, the game looks significantly better in motion than it does in screenshots.

Underbelly of reviews on display at The Escapist

Jul 18th 2007 12:53PM (Joystiq)
Wow. Um, I'm pretty sure I know who the anonymous game reviewer is, who the editor is, who the developer is, and what the game was. And that would explain a lot of things.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary episodes hitting Xbox 360 in September

Jun 18th 2007 1:42PM (Joystiq)
Hey, look at that. I was right. Except for them deciding not to package episodes together. And that pricing is way, way more reasonable than I expected.

Pachter places prediction on May NPD numbers

Jun 12th 2007 11:13AM (Joystiq)
I just don't see where the games or supply were in May to justify his optimism. All his numbers seem really high; 25ish percent increase in PS3 sales, 30 percentish increase in 360 sales, and 11ish percent increase in Wii sales, all while there were no new games, few new games, and little increase in supply respectively. The only console I could see having a better month to that degree would be the DS, which is finally non-supply constrained.
