Halo 3 Collector's Edition: lacking in mysterious extra discs [update]

Jun 8th 2007 1:42PM (Joystiq)
"I guess we need Blu-ray after all."

If the game is shipping, and shipping with two discs, doesn't it kind of demonstrate that we don't? Just kinda? If the game were postponed for a year and then canceled, with Bungie proclaiming "OMGZORS WE D1DT HAV TEH SPAZE", then you might have a point there. But two discs has never hurt a game before.

ESRB: Tomb Raider Anniversary bound for 360, possibly as DLC

Jun 6th 2007 4:22PM (Joystiq)
It is DLC, for Tomb Raider Legend. They're planning on releasing Croft Manor for free, and the rest of the levels will release in two parts. I don't know anything about pricing yet, but the rest is solid, I assure you. It's being released as DLC for Legend to reuse assets from the disc, and Crystal Dynamics is planning on releasing a special edition of Legend that includes the Anniversary content.

Joystiq Podcast 008 - Sony Gamer's Day edition

May 25th 2007 10:18AM (Joystiq)
I actually wrote a quick story yesterday with videos for all of the master tracks in Activision's latest press release for the game, which can be found here:

They're actually off to a pretty good start so far.

Haze coming 2007 for PS3, may only be timed exclusive

May 23rd 2007 3:57PM (Joystiq)
This is smart. Releasing a first person shooter anywhere within the vicinity of Halo 3 on the 360 is tantamount to suicide. On the other hand, shooter-envy for PS3 owners could lead to them picking up Haze so they don't have to listen to 360 owners harp about their exclusive. There's no competition in the genre on the PS3 during that time period either, so Ubisoft has a more or less assured audience.

EA an awful place to work. Awful great!

May 17th 2007 12:01AM (Joystiq)
The one person I know who works for EA really likes it. She does sound design.

Oh, and among others, some of the EA games they get discounted or for free include Half Life 2 Orange and Command and Conquer 3.

Microsoft's Peter Moore Dreamcasts the PS3

May 16th 2007 3:21PM (Joystiq)
Peter Moore and the American market are the only reasons the Dreamcast lasted as long as it did. In fact, the only successes Sega ever really had with hardware was almost entirely due to decisions and strategies made by its American arm. The Genesis was a failure in Japan, and the Saturn was developed and planned for release with no input or even notification to the American branch of the company. That's why the 32x was released.

If Moore wants to compare it to a Sega console, it bares more resemblance to the Saturn than the Dreamcast. Complicated architecture, last minute changes, too expensive, blindsided by competitors.

'Japan-only' Eternal Sonata demo works in U.S.

May 14th 2007 10:45AM (Joystiq)
I think the only time we'll see demos being restricted in this manner are when a magazine has an exclusivity deal for a demo disc for content that will be released on live in other territories. I think that's what happened with Chromehounds in the U.S., as OXM had an arrangement to get first dibs on the demo here while there was no such contract in Japan. We also didn't see the Timeshift demo on the Marketplace for the same reason (although don't think you missed anything special, I assure you). Microsoft said the region shifted accounts would still work to access Live. They just wouldn't be able to access protected content.

Demonstration: Ninja Gaiden DS stylus controls

May 11th 2007 3:43PM (Joystiq)
I don't see how this is a departure from the Xbox version of the game visually; minus the static backgrounds, which are much less jarring on a screen this small, the character models look fantastic. It's a more impressive technical achievement than Sigma, arguably, and it's the best looking animation and texture work I've seen on the system.

Condemned 2 announced, with multiplayer, for PS3 and Xbox 360

May 10th 2007 4:44PM (Joystiq)
I'm excited for this, as the first Condemned was amazing, but I'm fairly sure the multiplayer is being put in to make people think there's more game there. Most complaints about the first involved it's relative brevity and the lack of multiplayer, though mulitplayer wouldn't really have fit in my opinion. One thing I would say is that Sega will probably delay the PS3 version by an extra month or two, if the last Sonic game and F.E.A.R. are any indication.
