Zagat Fast-Food Survey Ranks In-N-Out Burger No. 1

Jun 9th 2009 3:23PM (Slashfood)
I'm agreeing with Elle. I'm something of a burger geek and 5 guys is now my default go-to place for a burger. I think McDonalds is on the list simply because people haven't TRIED anything else.

How to Make an Ice Cream Cake

You mention adding gelatin to ice cream. How much did you add per volume of ice-cream. I would hate for this to turn into ice jello.

Human Vending Machines - A Little Orwell With Your Candy?

Feb 19th 2009 12:21PM (Slashfood)
You have to wonder, as technology increases if the backlash to something older/ combined with technology (this idea) will become somehow "cool". I mean this is quite frankly WHY vending machines were invented, so you don't have to pay someone to stand at/in a booth for 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Banana flour may be the new ingredient in your pasta

Sep 10th 2008 3:17PM (Slashfood)
How does this work with the whole "Bananas are going extinct in X number of years" theory?

Isn't that kind of like discovering something we're running out of is the cure to our problems. (IE: Oil curing cancer or something like that)

Overall though, sound appealing... (couldn't resist)

Hawaiian vanilla beans: Get them while you can

Jun 18th 2008 7:23PM (Slashfood)
Vanilla extract is REALLY easy to make and is a LOT cheaper than buying it from a store. (However itcan take a lot of time.) My wife and I made it as a Christmas gift for friends and family one year. I think we make about 4 liters of Vanilla extract and it cost something like 4 dollars a bottle. (And that included the cost of the glass bottle we put it in.)

Plus it's always cool to have a huge seal-able bottle of vodka and vanilla in your pantry.
