The reason old folks move south to retire is not property, it is _because_ of the cold.
Ice is slippery, and pools outside every step and walkway, you slip and fall, an old person is going to break their hip, and a broken hip is effectively a death sentence for the average elderly person. Over 20% will die within the year.
Sidewalks are required by law in most cities to be shoveled within 24 hours of snowfall, 3 feet of heavy snow all around results in many heart attacks, even with the best of snow blowers. At the very least it is a constant annoyance for a couple who would rather just stay inside.
Just driving anywhere is more treacherous, and will result in cars where someone has to get out and push, and at the very least involves 10 minutes of thorough and exhausting ice scraping of all windows.
There are enough states to the south with depressed property values, there is no way Detroit can be pitched as a proper retirement alternative to Miami, try Mississippi or Louisiana, Florida retained it's retirement status even as their property values increased.
Mine Just became obsolete, as in I don't even meet minimum specs anymore, but it was unenjoyable to play on a year ago. Battlefield 2 took over 20 minutes to load the map or do the punkbuster check, and by then I usually got booted or the map changed.
2.4 ghtz P4, ATI 9700 pro, with 512 of RD-Ram (RD ram is a very special kind of ram, which was supposed to best faster than what else was on the market, and now costs 250 dollars for a gig of ram.
The kicker is I paid extra, no only for the privlege of RD Ram, but also extra for four slots of ram, and to consolidate the current ram on two dimms so I could upgrade in the future "when ram gets cheap".
You can already do this, without the goofy huge oversized cart adapter, any one of the DS hack cartridges (for example the R4) can run homebrew, DS homebrew has very good Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and Genesis emulators with about 80% compatibility right now. Oh and there are game boy and game boy color emulators too. The best Nintendo emulator has the L button mapped to an instant rewind, and they all support save states.
I already own a giant collection of game carts, so no I don't feel bad about playing roms, I'm not playing anything I don't own.
You seem to forget that they dont just need to ramp up production, they need to maintain quality while doing it.
Nintendo has a very very good warrantee, and very good tech support, some of the best in the world honestly, (when you call them you almost feel guilty for troubling such nice people) proably owing a lot to the fact that most of their consoles almost never break. If they were to just outsource production to various factories you dont think they would also sacrifice something a lot more precious, their brand identity for great customer service and reliability?
Hey, I too would enjoy super paper mario, I would have the complete paper mario series... and that would be.... cool I guess, in a geeky way... Its not like I can get a lady by saying "Want to come to my place and see my Mint In Box paper mario? Rawr."
