How much time are you getting out of your games?

Sep 26th 2006 4:24AM (Joystiq)
Are there any single player games (excluding Civ etc) that really last 40 hours? Almost all of them are just twenty hour games with dull fetch quests, backtracking and copy-and-pasted levels tacked on the end, IME.

US Nintendo press coverage not-so-live [update 9]

@Jimmy:

Dammit, that sucks. Hopefully just Argos being crap as usual. Anybody know if the Wii is going to be region locked?

US Nintendo press coverage not-so-live [update 9]

It should be interesting to see what Nintendo does with the EU release tomorrow, whether they think we're more like the Japanese market or the US.

My bet would be that we get something like the Japanese launch: early December, with no bundled Wii Sports, £130 in the UK.

Top 10 gaming myths

Aug 30th 2006 7:32AM (Joystiq)
What I find really sad is the amount of fun that the "Nintendo is for kids" people are missing out on. I used to be one of them, I'd only play 'mature', serious games like Rainbow 6 or Half life and derided Mario and consoles as kiddy.

Then I actually played Mario Sunshine, Zelda:WW and Pikmin and it dawned on me how wrong I was, what an idiot I sounded before and how my narrow-minded thinking had caused me to miss out on so much fun.

So before you write another post making yourself sound like an ill-informed, narrow-minded 17 year old, go collect a few ship pieces in Pikmin or get the first ten shines in Mario Sunshine. Then come back and have a real gamer discussion.

Red Steel: better things to come

I just don't see what Nintendo would have to gain from this. Why purposely show lower quality demos at E3 so journalists are less impressed? Why spend so much time and marketing budget talking about how it's gameplay that matters and then throw all that away?

How does that benefit Nintendo more than just releasing the full potential initially?

Rumor: Nintendo deliberately lying to us?

@DocGonzo

But Nintendo suddenly upping the hardware power isn't going to make the games look any better, that would require serious work on the part of the developers and artists.

The only thing I think is even remotely likely is that Nintendo will announce that Wii games can optionally support 720p. I remember there being a bunch of Mario Galaxy screenshots on Gamespot that were 1280x720, although I can't find them now.

Europe gets Wii pricing ... sort of

My guess is £150 in the UK, given that the core Xbox 360 is £200 now.

September 14: the new "it" day?

Joe: of course, Sony probably has more than one production line for PS3. And, while it may take more than a few seconds to make an individual PS3, the process is pipelined. So while it can take an hour to make a PS3 from start to finish, you can still make one every few seconds. I'm sure you've seen the photos of the 360 coming off the production line.

First look at Battalion Wars 2

Aug 23rd 2006 5:54PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Battalion wars is really good fun, but too limited and short to be a great game. Worth buying second hand or something. From the look of it, the sequel is going to address every problem with the original: adding naval units, multiplayer, spawning.

Nintendo unveils Mario Strikers and Battalion Wars sequels at Leipzig, little else [update 2]

Aug 23rd 2006 6:56AM (Joystiq)
Battalion Wars 2 is a pretty big announcement for me - if there was ever a game that would be improved by a sequel, BW is it.
