A Lower Strata of Marketing Desperation? A Recipe on The Family Stone DVD

May 4th 2006 4:48PM (Cinematical)
Doesn't Supersize Me have a recipe for something Alex makes for Morgan's detox diet?

(I don't think it's actually "on" the DVD though, it might be on the inlay card inside the case...)

Yes! Finally, something to mask the fact that his last movie was Jersey Girl. Ick, I feel dirty just bringing that up.

That Buffalo Bill gag was awesome.

Mark Beall's Geek Beat: It's Not a Special Edition Unless It's In a Fancy Box

I don't know how I feel about #3. I have the "tin box" Hellraiser and Evil Dead 2 sets, and they're such a pain in the ass to store.

On the other hand, the Chainsaw remake's fold-out chainsaw makes me smile every time.

I'm with you, Martha. Scarlett is just about as overrated as they come.

Masters of Horror: The DVD Breakdown

"Homecoming" is the only one that I even remember enjoying, and not because it was in any way horrific. It was more... dare I say: "cute".

By the way, can we all get together and stage some sort of intervention for Tobe Hooper? He needs to know it's over.

No, Not THAT Ring of Fire

From what I remember of the documentary, Benny Paret teased Griffith about his homosexuality at the weigh-in before their third (and final) fight.

A fight almost broke out right then, but in the actual bout, Griffith had already been knocked down earlier and was probably going to lose when he rallied in the 12th, and knocked Paret into a fatal coma.

I thought the documentary made the homosexuality angle more of a footnote, really. It put more of the blame on Paret's manager, who really overworked his fighter, and should have had him retire before Griffith III instead of going for the extra payday.

Griffith was married at the time, but I'm pretty sure he spoke about coming out in the documentary. Then again, he was quite punch-drunk.

Cinematical Seven: Horror Remakes That DON'T Suck!

Nice job. Although I personally dislike the NotLD remake because nothing can hold a candle to the perfect ending of the original.

I wish I could think up a few more off the top of my head, but it really is slim pickings.

Yeah, man. Don't mis-classify our horror and expect us not to notice. ;^)

Metareview - Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter

FYI for anyone who might see this, the problem I stated above (#12) is most likely one of the TV's "overscan".

(This setting can only be changed in your TV's service mode, so get in touch with someone who know's what they're doing before you accidentally do something really detrimental to your set.)

More info here:

It's not something I'd solely base a TV purchase on--as it is adjustable after sale--but it's good to put a name and possible solution to the scenario.
