Snoop launches pro gaming league

Feb 23rd 2006 2:16PM (Joystiq)
#9: "The entire marketing of the original xbox and the 360 here in America was centered around MTV and the hip hop generation. The music itself has been promintently featured in pretty much every EA game ever made."

This is why the custom soundtrack feature of the Xbox is such a good idea!

ABC news alert: "Predators are using Nintendo DS"

Feb 16th 2006 9:32AM (Joystiq)
I don't see a reason to watch "mainstream" TV news anymore, except to laugh at this sort of thing.

My top 5 reasons for NOT watching the news on TV:

5. Everything is overdramatized. This is sometimes true on online content, but it seems to be more prevalent on traditional TV broadcast news. Probably because they're trying to hold onto their audience as people discover that new fangled Interweb thing.
4. Information online is available in a more timely manner.
3. Online I can skip the irrelevant info and go straight to what I want to see.
2. These days, for myself and most people I know anyways, consuming content on someone else's schedule is unacceptable. This goes for entertainment as well as news and is why DVRs and podcasts are so popular. I don't have time to sit down and watch the 10 o'clock news every night. I have sleep to catch up on!
1. We don't have strippers as news anchors in the US. Not on network TV, anyways.

Useless Grannies replaced by games take heart

"You learned to deal with Electricity, Flying Machines, Moving Pictures and all sorts of other wacky technology."

Don't forget the horseless carriage!

Seriously, though. Once when I was in the car with my grandmother, I showed her solitaire on my PDA. I didn't get the thing back from her until after the trip. She doesn't know how to use a PC mouse, but she sure whipped through the touch-screen interface. Maybe Nintendo has the right idea...

Sony Pictures to offer DVD-UMD bundles

I always thought that including a coaster with a DVD would be a good idea! Kudos, Sony!

PSPuppies? Nintendogs rip-off in the works

D'oh! Meant #10. Sorry, me!

PSPuppies? Nintendogs rip-off in the works

#9: Nintendogs and Gigapets are simply in the same genre. Saying that Nintendogs is a rip-off of games like these as akin to saying that all platformers are rip-offs of Mario.

Setting aside the obvious "But Mario wasn't the first platformer!" arguement, "The Dog Happy Life" is an obvious Nintendogs clone.

"You people are stupid beyond repair."

I'd rather be stupid than ignorant. At least then I'd have an excuse.

Not worth playing without touchscreen.

Besides, "Nintendogs" is a much better name!

Curing MMORPG inertia

#12: I agree. Also, the fact that Guild Wars has no monthly fee eliminates the idea that you're wasting money if you don't play it as often as possible.

Head-up displays: limiting immersion?

Feb 6th 2006 11:52AM (Joystiq)
Kong can be pretty immersive and has no HUD. Of course, not having a HUD won't be fitting for every genre and every game. While it may work for Kong, I think certain first-person games would benefit from a good HUD. Take Metroid Prime, for example. That game has one of the most beautiful HUDs around, IMHO. Which other games that have had HUDs could've done without them?
