Spore, Mass Effect to require online validation every 10 days

May 7th 2008 2:18PM (Joystiq)
why don't they just distribute these games through Steam?

The guy who did Audiosurf had his beta weekend cracked and it was being played long after that. He went the smart route and made it available through Steam.

I know it has it's own flaws, like not being able to play your games at all if you don't have the internet, but at least it's somewhat secure and easy to use and doesn't include this gestapo checking-in 10 days bullcrap.

Never thought I'd see such a massive line for the Nail Salon! Must be having a special on Manicures/Pedicures.

Metal Gear Online beta gameplay footage for the uncoded masses

Graphically it looks amazing, aside from the washed out dull colors. Don't know what people are going on about with the slowness though, last time I heard this was a "Metal Gear" Online beta, not "Unreal Tournament" Online beta.

Zero Punctuation beats up Smash Bros. Brawl ... you're surprised?

Yeah saw this coming. No surprise. He has expressed his dislike for the Nintendo Wii in interviews already. I haven't played Brawl but I have played it's predecessors and I personally don't really see his gripe with unlockable content. All games should have some goal to work towards.

Street Fighter IV test machines in Japan, features Sagat and Balrog

I can't really say I'm overly excited or anticipating this game. It looks horrible, it seems to play horrible...what exactly is it that is drawing people in? Seems like they are trying to appeal to the Tekken/DoA/Soul Calibur crowd and moving away from their own fanbase.

Like Spinnet said, Street Fighter II HD is coming out soon. Pass on this.

Xboy: Ziff-Davis survey hints at Microsoft handheld

Feb 15th 2008 5:46AM (Joystiq)
yeah, looking at the results, It's not at all surprising. A ton of people think its a great idea and would love a P-xbox, while a lot of people see no room for MS in the portable Market.

It really does come all down to what they can offer that's different from both the Psp and the DS.

With Microsoft, they will most likely offer some form of Xbox Live functionality. Downloadable demos and games. I wonder what format they would use? cartridge or mini-dvds or something.

"You have to look at the back of the box to see the rating , I mean you really gotta get involved in this!"

Oh god forbid that I, as a parent, get involved in something in my kids are doing, right?

puh-leeze.

Jeff did a great job of quickly putting out the information that people watching this should need. It contains a side-boob and you can play through the game without even seeing the scene in question.

Typical Fox and typical Americans. Shoving the responsibility onto the Creators instead of themselves as consumers

Penny Arcade doles out criticism of Assassin's Creed criticism

Nov 16th 2007 11:26AM (Joystiq)
Hey "Gabe", don't you think that it would be kinda stupid to take a game like Assassins Creed, and try and review it and rush through it on a deadline? yes it would be, because you wouldn't have an accurate review of the game.

games like Assassins Creed, huge budget titles that are developed by well known companies like Ubisoft, are recieved by review groups (especially the big ones) in advance of the launch date, so they can get their Review up by/before the release date. They also have multiple review staff, that each have their own games to review. I'm pretty certain these guys/gals played the shit out of this game, especially if they were able to pick up on some of the more glaring flaws like the shitty AI (which you did not include in your criticism). Its not only the crappy ending (which probably isnt all that bad) or the repetition thats lowering the score.

Its the lackluster AI, the lack of any online content in an game designed for two online consoles, no multiplayer aspect, short single player experience, poor combat engine, and easy overall gameplay. Aside from beating the game one time, and then playing around for awhile in the cities, what else is there to do? nothing.

Review sites arent always right about things but their a great place to gauge the worth of a game, and Assassins Creed is at best worth of a rental.
