WipEout dev questions validity of epilepsy test

Sep 17th 2008 2:51PM (Joystiq Playstation)
No, you guys are all wrong.

Epilepsy is not something you "have" or "get". See, being the gamer that i'am, and having read EVERY single manual of every game i've ever bought ( i like reading in the shitter) and have a couple of times actually read the Epilepsy warning, and heres the key point:

MAY cause epileptic seisures in persons who have epilepsy AND persons WHO HAVE HAD NO HISTORY of epilepsy.

That to me means, anyone can have an epileptic seisure. It just depends on which flashing lights/moving objects affect you is anyone's guess. I've been gaming since the Sega Master System/Nintendo Entertainment System days, and, thank god, have never experienced an E seisure before, but i know because of the included warning labels, that i can have one. Hasn't stopped me from gaming ever.

Now i dont believe Wipeout HD (WOHD) should have had to remove the content, UNLESS they were having more than usual epileptic failures, which seems to have been the case. All in all, im of the mind, if i didnt see the cool extra stuff, then i wont miss either :)

What is this Sonic Unleashed trailer missing? 2D

Sep 15th 2008 1:14PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Sonic Adventure was the last "good" Sonic game, aside from the days his of his 16bit glory. No, i am not excited for this "Sonic" game at all.

You see, Sega has messed up sonic on so many levels, i doubt we will ever get that great Sonic game we all crave for. Let's start of with a list of things:

First, the whole "rock n roll, ska, metal" Sonic theme has GOT TO GO. The reasons the original Sonic games were awesome were NOT because of rock n metal type music. They can't even get the music right in the Sonic games, Sonic Adventure was the start of that ugly trend. Bring back the sweet tracks of Green Hill Zone.

Second, i know Sonic has been shown with "people" before, but when they actually show Sonic with people, it makes it look too cartoony. The only "human" that should ever be shown is Robotnik. I don't like the whole we are saving humans theme. Keep it fantastical, like Rayman, or like Ratchet and Clank.ooh, man if they were ever given the Sonic License, i believe they could make the ultimate Sonic Platformer, built around speed of course.

3. Keep it 2D with 3D segments mixed in, not the other way around. Sonic Adventure had the 3D segments down to where they were fun, now throw in lots more 2D segments and you have a sure hit, provided the music is there as well, not of that stupid Rock n Metal crap.

4. Quit trying to make an "all genres in one" game. Look at number 3 for what type of game Sonic should be, a 2d/3d platforming on speed game.

Anywhoo those are my main gripes about the current state of Sonic games. 1. Lame rock n metal crap music. 2. Kick the humans from the story. 3. 2D w/3D thrown in and that s it. 4. Keep it one genre, maybe two at the most.

And no, Sonic in SSBB does not suck. He is awesome!

Samsung director believes Blu-ray has '5 years left'

Heres the problem with that statement:

1. Our internet infrastructure would not be able to handle ALL the movie downloads that people would be doing, hell ISPs are already limiting the bandwith on users, and thats not even HALF of people who download movies, imagine if EVERYONE who buys DVD/BRs switched to downloads? Don't even want to think about that.

2. Physical Media is still the best way to go. There are numerous reasons. It can't get data corruption, it really doesn't matter which "media player" you use, you pop it in and it plays, no codecs to worry about. You can easily take it to a friends house, just bring a back pack full of movies and your set for an all nighter, you don't have to worry if you computer/external hard drive crashes, you don't have to sit 2-3 hours for one movie to 'download', in that time you could have gone to the store to pick up popcorn, pack up said backup, buy the movie and watch 1hour of the movie by the time it DLs.

3. People don't like 'plans'. People have enough "plans" to worry about: Cell phone plans, Internet/Cable/Phone plans, they would be reluctant to get into a "pay x amount for x amount of movie DLs per month', granted this can be overcome, but it does take awhile for this to be setup properly.

Here is the number one reason on top of all those above:

Holywood is greedy. They don't want to risk losing money the way the the music industry has. There are two key differences tho: 1. Music Files are TINY, and quick to DL, 2. Movie files, if you care about quality that is, ARE HUGE and SLOW to download. Those two reasons are what's on Hollywood's side right now and 3. DRM. I highly doubt they will allow you to transfer movie files from one media device into another.

Anywhoo, i don't doubt Digital Downloads is the future, but the future will not be here in 5 years or 10 years for that matter.

Quartermann: Rockstar's PS3-exclusive title

Aug 27th 2008 1:30PM (Joystiq Playstation)
NOTE to PS3Fanboy:

Next time you mention Quarterman, leave out the letter's : E G M. Doing so will prevent any immediate write offs as to Quarterman's rumors.

E G M is nothing but toilet paper trash...

SIDE NOTE: Good to hear of an upcoming exclusive by Rockstar!! My guess/hopes: Read Dead Revolver 2 :)

LGC 08: Street Fighter IV screens

Aug 20th 2008 9:34AM (Joystiq Playstation)
"i'm sure fans of the SFII days are loving what they're seeing in terms of gameplay. SFIII people are crying inside."

and crying on the outside too, SF3 was to me was the best SF ever, i mean the animation was smoother than anything still out there, and the gameplay was limited only by the player behind the controls. I was expecting an expansion to that series...Kabuki how i miss you :(

Anywhoo still excited about this game, but until a true SF4 comes out ( where is Kabuki and the rest of the SF3 cast ?!) this will just keep me satisfied, not full like SF3 did..oh wait tho this is Capcom we could be in for a new wave of SF think about it:

Street Fighter 4: Champion Edition
Street Fighter 4: Hyper Champion Edition
Street Fighter 4: Turbo
Street Fighter 4: Super Turbo
Street Fighter 4: Alpha
Street Fighter 4: Zeta
Street Fighter 4: Omega
Street Fighter 4: Super Omega Complete Edition
Marvel vs Capcom 3 ( this game will rock, hard..)
Marvel vs Capcom 4
Tenshinouken(check spelling) vs Capcom
Tenshinouken vs Capcom 2
SNK vs Capcom 3
Then, when capcom has learned to count to "5", we will get our SF3 equivalent:

Street Fighter 5

Rumor: More concept art from 'revived' Halo movie

"I still am fearful for this movie ¬_¬ FOr some reason I can't see anything other then a replica of Starwars except with guns instead of lightsabers."

ALso, with worse acting, an a worse than generic storylone, yes i went there...Go ahead try and defend Halo's "story", Halo will be worse than Dead or Alive or Alone in the Dark. it will just make you look like a MS fantard, because even the Halo fans say the story is a joke, but the gameplay is fun :) i like the gameplay.

John Carmack says Blu-ray offers better graphics

Aug 1st 2008 7:56PM (Joystiq Playstation)
"It's all pointing towards digital distribution for games."
Yeah, so developers/publishers can lose even more money on pirated copies of videogames...DD is not gonna happen for awhile buddy, probably by the time im 50ish...Also, like a poster said, people love having their collections, i HATE having my movies on a harddrive, imagine if you have to do a HD wipe, which most pc gamers go through pretty consistantly, so to re-DL all those movies would be such a hassle.
"The thing is, developers have already fit brilliant, high quality games on 1 DVD. Carmack is an idiot, the only time developers ever make use of BluRay's extra space is because they can't be bothered to compress their files, which leaving them uncompressed has no gain as the BluRay drive reads slower than a DVD drive. "
I agree, some beautiful games have been fit on 1 DVD9, but IMAGINE how much BETTER that game would have been without HAVING to COMPRESS it in the first place which no matter how good a compression technique there is, compression ALWAYS = reduced quality, thus in essence, Blu Ray DOES bring IMPROVED graphics by NOT having to COMPRESS as much if at all the game. Think of it like a painting. You want to paint your masterpiece, and on one hand Microsoft is offering you a standard 8"x11" to fit your grand masterpiece in, whereas sony is offering a a 18"x24" canvas, guess which one is gonna look better of the same image....
"Plus, id suck for optimisation."
yeah, Id, a game company who pretty much put the FPS on the map Wolfenstein, Doom.....
