HDMI cables laying around the house are about as common as s-video nowadays.

HDD if you want to save games...but not needed to play them.

$20 BR disks when I get DVD's for $4 at wal-mart.

All i'm saying is $199 is not bad for this system.

What does $199 get me?
1. all xbox 360 and most of the xbox (original) games
2. xbox live arcade games
3. online play (subscription)
4. access my music, pictures and videos from computer
5. with a media center computer on my network:
a. streaming my DVD rips to my xbox 360
b. streaming my recorded TV shows and live TV via TV tuner in PC
6. netflix streaming movies and hi-def movies
7. zune marketplace HD movie rentals and purchase
8. access to facebook and twitter and last.fm
9. upconverting dvd player (I'm not spending $30 on BR disks)

all this without a hdd needed on the xbox
