Penske blindsided by Daimler's decision to take over Smart USA?

Feb 26th 2011 1:34PM (Autoblog)
I never said NYC was enough to support a car company - I did say that I don't understand why everyone focuses on MPG when that's not the point of the car.

It's like saying the Chevy Volt is terrible because I can't fit a 65" LCD tv in the trunk from Best Buy - that's not what the vehicle was designed for.

The Smart car is not for everyone - I have no idea why it was even marketed outside major cities or the suburbs surrounding it. It has a single pupose, and when used for that purpose, it's an amazing car. Park it anywhere - no other car is like it (Prius, Yaris, etc) when it comes to parking.

This never should have been a Penske deal - should be sold through MB dealers - low volume. Add it to the deliveries of MBs every month. Done and Done.

Penske blindsided by Daimler's decision to take over Smart USA?

It's amazing how people keep missing the point of the Smart car - it's not MPGs, it's parking. Pure and simple. Saving $40-50 per day in NYC parking garages. On the rare occation you can't find a spot - ICON Parking has a 50% Smart car discount -

Let's call it $35/day * 260 work days/year = $9,100 savings

In less than 2 years, the car pays for itself.

Man hits 1M miles in Ford F-250... in four years

Oct 26th 2010 2:22PM (Autoblog)
1,000,000 / 4 (years) = 250,000 miles / year

250,000 / 365 (days per year) = 684.9315068493151 miles per day (call it 685)

685 miles per day at avg 60 MPH = 11.41 hours per day

Certainly possible for a single driver.

Chrysler will take care of FLO TV customers, doesn't know how yet

Oct 15th 2010 12:04PM (Autoblog)
I guess I'm one of those 825 - we had sirius backseat TV on our 2008 T&C - 3 channels - nothing campared to FloTV in our 2010 T&C.

I would much rather them extend the service.

If the service is canceled, we would invest in Sirius again - the DVD thing, over and over, is annoying to listen to. At least the TV is variety.

Chrysler releases details, images of refreshed 2011 Town & Country

Sep 14th 2010 1:33PM (Autoblog)
I'm on my second Chrysler T&C (2008 and 2010) and they are by far some of the best vehicles I've ever owned.

3 Screens - 2 DVD Players, FLO TV, Navigation, Bluetooth, Hard Drive Music/Pictures, Dual Power Sliding Doors - 4 Heated Captains Chairs - 3 Zone A/C - Electrical Outlet for Laptop - about a million cup-holders...it's a mobile command unit.

I looked at everything before getting it (from the Kia to the Mercedes R), nothing could compete with the features for the price and it's been very reliable.

How a 60-hour restorative detail brought this Ferrari F40 back to life

This is a very difficult job as the paint on the F40 was never wonderful to start with and was thinner at points. You need to be super careful.

Yes, the $400 Dell does come with a monitor - on Black Friday '09 we picked up a dozen $329 Dell's with 18" LCD screens. Right now (at a quick glance) I see Dell Business selling a Vostro 230 with 18" LCD, 2GB RAM and C2D for $459. If you look around, I'm sure you'll find a Dell that's right at the $400 mark with a monitor.

Logitech's high-end Flight System G940 hands-on

Mitch - $300 will get you 2-3 hours of flight time (with an instructor) tops. Nowhere near a license. That logic may work for Rock Band or Guitar Hero, but not for flying.

CarrotAndStick - Checkout Sony Navitus universal remote. Tactile feedback is unreal, you never had to look on the screen to know where the bottons were.

I thought maybe he was able to get the older PSP to run Skype, but it didn't show up on my system, so I guess not.
