Sony avoids the chance that a disastrous precedent is set.
I can't believe that some people here think Sony won this one. If a mega-corporation settles with a small-time defendant like this it's because they're worried about the outcome of the case. GeoHotz couldn't "give" Sony anything -- what Sony wanted was a precedent that would deter people from messing around with Sony products. This is Sony going out with a whimper.

Also, your own website has reported on providers throttling back on known bandwith hogs like WoW. You can't just "pay the price" because throttling isn't the same as capping.
