The Daily Grind: Are there games that should be PvP-free?
Mar 23rd 2011 11:33AM (Massively)No one's forcing you to get a purple dragon mount, which was my original point. If your way of protest is to purposefully annoy a bunch of people trying to have fun maybe you should reevaluate how you choose to spend your time online.
I on the other hand cannot act like a petulant child while trying to get my PvE gear just because I think it's bad design to put the best PvP gear 3 hours into a boring instance.
The Daily Grind: Are there games that should be PvP-free?
Mar 23rd 2011 9:43AM (Massively)I have very little sympathy for people in your situation. The gear you get from PvP can be used as placeholder gear in PvE, but ultimately you want to replace it with items that don't have part of their budget spent on resilience and high stamina.
However, PvE allows you to get weapons and gear that are plainly better for PvP than the PvP gear. Legendary weapons, various mana regen or damage trinkets, armor sets with ridiculous 2 piece bonuses, it's truly a huge list.
In the end no one is forcing PvErs to PvP; you don't need the PvP gear to be successful in PvE. The PvP gear is easy to get and nice to have, but you're going to replace it eventually. On the other hand, if you really want to be at the top of the PvP game, you must have consistent access to PvE gear. I can't be "disruptive" to my PvE friends because then I won't get invited back and won't get the gear I need. PvE also takes longer, can't be done in short intervals, requires more preparation, and requires you to join a guild of a certain size.

Mar 22nd 2011 12:21PM (Massively)A few friends of mine ran gathering bots. The amount of stuff they ended up with was staggering.
One friend in particular was going through some tough financial times and decided to sell gold to pay the rent. He made all of his gold by vendoring the bars you get from mining. In about a month he had sold something like 300-400k gold, if that gives you an idea of how much raw material a bot can produce.
The problem is that the bots are really sophisticated these days, and Blizzard does a terrible job keeping up with them. This friend of mine made enough money to pay for a couple months rent almost entirely unattended. Long gone are the days where I would macro Magery in UO by having EZ Macro record and play back my mouse movements and keystrokes.
The Daily Grind: How long does a new game have to get you hooked?
Mar 22nd 2011 8:19AM (Massively)The only two games I've ever played for longer than a month were UO and WoW. Games that I paid for but quit after about 2-3 weeks include WAR, EQ, RIFT, AoC, AC, Shadowbane, and Fury (lol).
