I didn't mean to start another DS vs Nintendo thread, I was simply trying to demonstrate that different people have different tastes, and should not have their head bitten off for it. A lot of Nintento fans hate the PSP for having 'ports' of GTA/Madden/MGS, and PSP fans hate the DS for having 'ports' of Mario/Yoshi/'kiddie' games. Just buy the system you prefer and stop hating on the rest!!!!!!
All you guys dissing GTA are not getting the point. The most common arguments are that it is a port or you have already played it on a console. Firstly, this argument applies to Nintendo more than it does to Sony. Some of the best games on the DS are derivatives of franchises which people bored of a long time ago. PSP rehashes tend to have been played less, and are therefore fresh to more people. Most games on PSP which people consider ports are either Multi-platform releases or sequels, and not everyone has played the console versions of these games. Besides, in this day and age, it is very hard to invent an original game.
Secondly, the two GTA games were specifically created for the PSP, and the first one was then ported to PS2 after being successful on PSP.
Finally, although Im not too fond of 2D games, i have always been a fan of platform games. To date, the only decent one on the PSP is Daxter. This is one area where the DS is much better in my opinion (although action titles like prince of persia, tomb raider, etc, do have this element in them). Hopefully this will translate to more platform games on the PSP.
(To 63: His point was that any system that sells near a million units is not dead, even if another, cheaper system happens to sell more - a point you would have understood if you weren't such a retarded fanboy (pardon my french))
There are already much better games than this on the PSP already. Also the best games on PSP are significantly better than the best on DS, eg GTA, something DS will never be able to aspire to. Now you might argue that these sort of games are not your thing, but the same applies to the best rated DS games, most people got tired of playing these a long time ago.
The only area DS games trump the PSP is that generally they are more suitable for portable play.
As for the port arguments, DS is equally guilty of this. This is only a problem if you have played the originals, which is less likely on the PSP ports.
PS3 is very expensive, but for all the technology it packs in, it is worth it, unlike the Wii, which should have been sold for no more than $200. BTW I am not a blind fanboy, I am seriously considering moving to the dark side and getting a 360, lol!!
Which ever system i end up getting, i need to get a HDTV first, and this is the main problem for PS3 and also Bluray/HDDVD adoption. Most consumers are aware that you require a HDTV first, and this requires a significantly higher investment.
I think this is the main reason the 360 shipped without a HDDVD player included. 2005 was way too early for High definition to break out, and it seems early 2007 is too early also. But looking ahead to 2008 and 2009, there may be some good news for Sony. There will be a significant installed base with a Bluray player due to ps3 owners, and they will start buying bluray movies, and hence increasing Bluray adoption. (Im willing to bet that half of current ps3 owners do not own a hdtv and/or have no idea what bluray is).
I am looking to get a 720 HDTV in the next six months. Will there be an eventual fix for this? Even if I wanted 1080p HDTV, I dont think any are available at the moment in the UK, or are about £2000 (approx $3800). If there is no fix I am going to be forced down the 360 route
A few weeks ago, for the first time ever, i was considering buying a 360 over a PS3, due to a number of reasons. I currently own a ps2 and a psp, and bought a ps1 before these.
360 has a universally praised online system, which ps3 is unlikely to have. The premium ps3 will cost about £400 in UK, and on top of that i have to buy a HD TV, whereas 360 is available NOW.
PS3 had two main advantages over 360: Blu-ray and 1080p. Unfortunately i have discovered that a) you need approximately above 37 inch tv to easily notice the difference between 1080p and 720p, and b) there are no 1080p tv sets on sale in the UK. In addition, MS announced an add-on HD-DVD drive for 360, and most games will be aimed at both consoles, and it will be hard to tell the difference between the two (and even if you do, neither will be crap).
I also think that HD movie playback should not be the deciding factor, since in a few years time, dedicated players will be cheaper, and possibly play both competing formats. This basically erodes the advantage ps3 had, and on top of that, by the time i get either console (possibly summer 2007, so the delay doesn't really bother me), 360 will be considerably cheaper. Also, you can use a laptop to make the 360 'wireless', of course you still need a cable to connect to the laptop.
The only problem with this whole idea is that the cheaper version of PS3 will now have HDMI, and possibly have a reduced price, and i also really really want to have one (it will be hard to resist when PS3 is THE console to buy, being the newest kid on the block). If i do get a 360, i will still have a ps2 and psp to play with. Now my dilemma is which one do i buy? i have about a year to decide.
