"Downloadable games are a nice bonus, but the novelty seems to be attracting a disproportionate amount of our game companies' attentions."
They're not novelties at all. Small, downloadable games are a perfectly viable means of distribution. Just because the PS3 is expensive doesn't mean that a smaller, Live Arcade-like purchase isn't taking full advantage of what the system has to offer.
After all, isn't Geometry Wars one of the most processor intensive games available for the 360 at this point?
This kind of thing has been a concern of mine for years. I've always loved the idea of going into game development, but after hearing horror stories of development gone wrong, I keep second guessing myself. At the moment, I develop business software, which is much more defined and stable. More profitable, too. I guess what it comes down to is how much you can enjoy making games. I'm still not sure if it's worth it.
I don't think it's so much that Sony wants to work with Microsoft as "We're being our usual, elitist selves and publically acting as though Microsoft is insignificant."
I'm glad EVE Online is finally getting the recognition it deserves. The development that EVE has gone under since it's release is nothing short of astounding. A complete UI overhaul and six free expansions in two years is pretty impressive. The game is definitely in a league of it's own.
