These people need to space out these Kickstarters. I have backed this one but I can only afford the lowest tier because I've already given my money to like 3 or 4 other Kickstarters. I mean some of them its understandable not realizing they're timed close together. Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun should have the intuition to separate themselves by two or three months.
I'd be alright with a Bioware style pause the game tell them what to do or a Final Fantasy Tactics style combat. Or the old AD&D Gold Box style combat. Either way it doesn't matter. Wasteland 2 has already paid for itself. If no one likes it then I'm sure the Wasteland 3 Kickstarter won't go as well. Turn based combat will never be popular on a mainstream level. Personally I miss having a little work in my games.
Its weird reading all these replies by people who don't realize Kat was the JRPG chick for 1Up at one time. Hell I never would have read GamePro if it wasn't for her. I'm a big RPG fan in general and anyone who is nice to the genre, can write decently, and doesn't come off as a fan person with a chip on their shoulder is okay in my book. Its good to see Kat finding her way on to one of my favorite videogame websites.
These narrative and story posts that have been going around are really weird though because they speak an entirely different language than I think the audience reads in.
I also think that a game can have any one element excel and be good. The best ones are more than the sum of their parts though. Chronotrigger has a fun story, decent gameplay, and a fun time mechanic. Any of those items alone shouldn't win any awards. What makes the game great is bringing all those elements together giving us a solution that is more than the sum of its parts.
I'm surprised there isn't a larger uprising on the Skyrim sentence. Personally, I absolutely love the Skyrim world.
@StarcasM Although I did buy some wonderful iphone games this shared reflection was more in consideration to games like Dead Space 2, Tactics Ogre, Skryrim, Portal 2,LA Noire, Infamous 2, Catherine, Bastion, Deus Ex Human Revolution, and Dark Souls to name a few. It was just a surprising reveal of an accidental boycott.
The apathist in me doesn't care even though I live in Oklahoma because I buy all my video games on Amazon and Oklahoma's version of internet tax is to report your online sales. But then I also remember how much I hate driving in this state which tax dollars pay for as our roads are constantly under construction. I probably should write that local legislation guy so the ESA doesn't take all our money.
Amazon 'Spring Sale' on PC has LA Noire for $5, Crysis 2 for $7.50
