EFF working to make console modding legal

Dec 2nd 2011 11:39AM (Joystiq)
@foxhound All the more reason to get the law sorted out and clarified and come to a new balance between different social forces in this area. Law is slow. Takes time to hammer out. Decades, sometimes.

It's not the presence of grey areas that matter per se, I'd be more worried about imbalance of bargaining between parties. If consumers don't organize themselves, they'll completely outgunned by the organized ones - pressure groups, companies etc...

Shogun Bros. Chameleon X-1 mouse is a controller in disguise

Dec 12th 2010 11:16PM (Joystiq)
Like all controllers, it depends on the execution too - slightly disappointing it's a 1600dpi optical sensor for the mouse though. And of course it depends if the buttons and sticks and dpad on the gamepad side are any good.

If it works well it could be a good companion for laptop gaming, especially those M11X owners out there, ergonomics not being such a huge issue for shorter sessions.

Why is Android such a failure with women?

I'm a man, but theory is that iPhones are popular, they work, they're easy enough to use and they get the basic things done. Not too much incentive to try other OSes (other than BB's for work) under these circumstances.

@cdf74dc9 Well '7.1 digital processing' isn't anything new for Sony, see the MDR-DS7100:

Granted, there can be a lot differences in driver, housing and pads between headphones affecting the sound and comfort...

@samleung yea, it's not that hard. Handwriting tablets are pretty good these days, never had a problem with non-recognition.

Pleco 2.2 Chinese Dictionary uses iPhone camera to translate text in real time (video)

@ipsi It's never really been hard to just hire up a Chinese-English dictionary and copy the charatcter using handwriting recongition, most touchscreen phones can do that, but this is more convienent. Its usefulness also depends on how well it can recongize phrases and context.

Motorola XT806 Android flip phone strikes a pose on Chinese website

Capacitative finger painting Chinese is really a pain. I really need a capacitative stylus... or just learn cangjie.

Tod's Launches World's Most Expensive iPad Cases, Plus an App

Aug 10th 2010 10:16PM (Luxist)
I don't know, man. Leaving aside the issue of luxury goods, Tod's handbag - everyone knows what that's about. Tod's iPad case? Who's going to know if it's inside your Tod or Hermes handbag all the time?

Toshiba's dual-screen Libretto W100 hits Japan next week

New York to Japan? phishh just 13 hours, that's short. Try New York - Singapore (18h), New York - Hong Kong (16h). Now that's nasty =)
