NHL 2K8 charges $5 to unlock feature already on game

Sep 21st 2007 5:20AM (Joystiq)
This article, and the comments supporting it are based on the mistaken belief that you own the contents of the disk, when in fact you only actually own the right to use the software in the manner described by the licence agreement. So, from a legal perspective you are horribly wrong as well as missing the 'common sense' angle as well which is to say; surely the 'actual' point is whether or not it represents good value, or should have been included in the release version. Whether part, or all of this feature is on the disk or not has little bearing on these questions.

Any links to the video for us Brits? Apparently copyright issues will only let the video play in the US.

TIME magazine deems PS3 a bust

Comments along the lines of "I hope Sony/MS/Nintendo/Your Mam go down" etc. etc. are fantastically retarded.

No matter what your (somewhat pathetic) brand allegance, the competition provided by these other companies is what has pushed forward the development of that shiny bit of plastic you invest so much of your emotions in and, quite possibly, furiously fwap over every night.

Without competition there would be no 360/Wii/PS3 for you to get all teenage-angst over. Hoping for the demise of the competition is to hope for any kind of advancement to cease.

All consoles are expensive at launch, have little in the way of decent launch apps and suffer supply shortages.

In other news; Bear caught coiling one out in the woods. Pope rumoured to have Catholic leanings.

This is just lazy journalism, echoing the retarded ramblings of internet fanboys. It's getting a bit boring now guys.

If you think 50,000 USD is bad try doing the same job in the UK. Higher cost of living, much lower average developer wage.
I'm in a senior roll, almost six years experience, on the equiv of 54,000 USD.

360 cam to usher in home surveillance?

Apr 6th 2006 2:44PM (Joystiq)
There was a case here in Cambridge where a guy who had previously been burgled and had his PC nicked set up a webcam triggered by motion and had the PC upload the shots to a remote webspace. Sure enough the guy broke in again and his ugly mug was caught on camera nicking the PC.

The theiving get was taken to court whereupon the case was immediately thrown out, reason being the camera used did not meet legal requirements for its images to be used as evidence.

So, unless these cameras are certified for use as a surveilance device the security system is worthless.

"EB and GameStop make basically no money from new product."

Yeah, right.

Every other highstreet store makes a shed load on new titles, so he's either lying or EB is run by monkeys.
