EGM Media to produce Walmart gaming mag

@Genaldar
I haven't read EGM on the newstand in months, what is so bad about it?

EGM Media to produce Walmart gaming mag

Don't expect anything miraculous here folks. This is not going to be the next Game Informer, just a contract publication probably styled like an advertorial. It may last a year or two if Walmart doesn't mind bleeding some cash. The tablet version sounds interesting but again if it's EGMi rehashed than the news will be old and stale by the time it is published.
I wish they would focus on EGMnow.com and develop a solid iOS and Android app the way Joystiq has. So far nothing can replace my beloved Joystiq!

Thanks so much, saving some dough is always welcome.

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair whips up a first place finish on XBLA charts

Aug 12th 2010 4:28PM (Joystiq)
No surprise it's doing this well on the Castlevania brand alone.
The Castlevania fan base has been dying for a new game worth it's salt.
The game itself is medicore at best with tedious level grinding and only six levels very simplistic levels to speak of. I'm pissed I plunked down 1200 points without reading more reviews. I'll just go back and replay SOTN to remember what life was like when Konami cared about Castlevania.

EGM Now hires industry vet Billy Berghammer as group EIC

Hopefully EGMi will stop with the features focus and goes more towards news. For all you wondering what IPass gets you, so far it's a few wallpapers and sometimes MP3 tracks of the game being written about. I bought the first issue off the newsstand and I can't think of a good reason to hand over $25 to subscribe to info I basically get for free elsewhere.

Revived EGM's first issue has Street Fighter covered

I'm the same way. Websites have conditioned us to read short width columns of text no longer than a few paragraphs. We also expect to interact with our news with some sort of blog or comment section. EGM had better have some killer exclusives and original content, both tough to score in the age where leaks become instant information.

Bad news. You're going to keep getting Maxim. The Publisher already announced he is not honoring old subs you need to re-subscribe at $25 a year in order to get the new mag. As for me, I'm too cheap to pay for monthly video game news, I'll stick to Joystiq and other sites for my daily/hourly fix.

'EGM: The Lost Issue' launches, offers free preview of EGMi: The Digital Magazine

Apr 1st 2010 5:35PM (Joystiq)
It's an over glorified Flash site, not some new tech and certainly won't work on the iPad unless they develop it twice over in an Apple friendly format.

Overall I'm not sold this is worth $25 along with the print mag. The encoding on the Flash Video FF13 trailer was horrible. Page load time we bearable but my browser crashed twice while trying to flip through the pages. So far I'll save my money and read Joystiq for free.

According to the corporate website egmnow.com will be a rolling news site much like Joystiq. Wonder if they'll be getting any more free press around here?

EGM Now launches with ... digitized final issue of old EGM?

Feb 21st 2010 11:23PM (Joystiq)
The mockup of EGMi is done in Flash 10. iPad and iPhone do not support Flash so maybe Steve's tech people need to explain it to him before launches in a few weeks. Also, the net gives me my FREE news by the hour through Joystiq and my FREE HD video at GameTrailers. Why do I need a weekly EGMi that cost me $25 a year?

EGM relaunches with April issue, explains digital content

Am I the only one NOT getting excited about this. You pay for the print magazine to get access to a weekly interactive magazine EGMi to get old news already seen here on Joystiq for free. Plus Shoe and SeanBaby's antics are a negative, not a positive in my book.
