Why not make all 10 mans 12 mans, 25 mans into 30 mans, and 5 mans into 6 mans?
Design the game to revolve around having more dos if that's what the playerbase is leaning toward. 4 dps, 1 healer, 1 tank should distribute tanks and healers to more dps.
Someone ask about the pre-Cataclysm events :( GC said it would simply be "changed" overnight, which I could see in terms of SW's layout, but I wanted to see Deathwing blow up the Park for myself :S
Honestly, from the gameplay videos I've seen, it suits me quite nicely. There are difficulty settings on quests basically, to where you can choose difficulties (and better rewards) for bringing yourself, a pair, a small or large party, or a "raid" (legion).
To me, this suits me nicely, as WoW always seemed to punish my girlfriend and I for duoing. Quests didn't award much extra exp, collection quests were maddening waiting for respawn timers, and in the rare instance a quest would be easier as a duo.
Sure, it won't be as easy as WoW, and will likely be a bit more wonky, but I don't really mind as it keeps the "MMO" aspect in an online MMORPG...
In terms of setting, I really don't see why Ivalice would be such a great setting. FFT was great, but it was its own game. The world and characters are very similar to FFXI in FFXIV, but maybe that's because they're attracting the same audience yet new players with what they've said in several interviews to be a more solo-friendly yet group-rewarding game?
WoW is my sumpin' sumpin'... My first MMO was actually Final Fantasy XI. Though I left it permanently, it was mostly because that game was just a little too extreme and at times, frustrating. WoW is actually pretty fun, but call me a masochist, I truly miss FFXI.
With Final Fantasy XIV coming though, I'm definitely looking to try that... and hopefully be back with a game like the one I used to play.
Hatri, I do remember this happening at about the 3rd expansion or so in FFXI.
The HDD was about 40GB, if I remember right FFXI ended up being massive in file size, and they did start to push the HDD size limit, but not go over it. The game itself had loading screens, I don't think processor speed or the PS2 GPU really held it back, even if it was inferior to PC.
In regards to that, PS3 hard drives can be upgraded, and by default now are coming with larger sizes. I'm curious how they will satisfy people who are first gen PS3 owners though, will they simply say you need an HDD upgrade for new expansions or the game itself?
Thankfully, it isn't proprietary hard drives, and being standard laptop drives, they are easy to upgrade, I have a 250GB in mine :S
IMO, the trade-off of potentially having less graphical/technical improvements over the years is outweighed by being able to play with more people (RL friends and such can easily jump in, many people I know have PS3's but bad laptops), to me anyway.
Agreed with the above. If you're any serious gamer, a PS3 is awesome and nowadays, affordable. If you can't afford one, I feel sorry for you (not being sarcastic, it is reasonable).
I think giving us some better graphics to chew on is a good thing, personally... Especially with a console version guaranteed to be fine.
Spellpower/AP boost on use trinkets are best used during heorism/bloodlust, especially if lust is just after DPS ramp up, or is coordinated to be on the end of a fight when CDs and trinkets are ready again after their first or second use.
I find crit chance stack trinkets (such as Nevermelting Ice Crystal) should be used off cooldown or when one's % or base damage goes up (not taking into account haste whatsoever). For example, I love to use Nevermelting Ice Crystal during an Arcane Power on my Mage, but after I've used an On-use SP trinket, troll Berserking, heroism (possibly), and Icy Veins. If you're forced to use two on use trinkets like I have, I like to figure out what goes well with heroism (straight SP or extra haste for a set period of time) or stacks that go away usually before their period of time is up are best used on cooldown or outside of heroism in favor of the other trinket.
