"Let's stream video games from the cloud", they say. Hmmmm ... in other words, "watch myself play a video game remotely." And why, exactly, would I want to do this? Oh gee, I can play it on an iPhone. Crysis ... on an iPhone. After that "e-Peen moment", any real gamer would likely cancel their free demo and head straight back to the XBOX for a serious round of Halo.
For casual gaming, I can see it being ok. Lots of titles out there I'm never going to buy but then again for a service like this I'd want a low price and a buffet of new titles to really catch my interest. I'd rather throw down on XBOX Live. That gets me NetFlix and a whole bunch of other perks.
Even more you gotta remember: There ain't no such thing as a free lunch (TANSTAAFL) . All we're doing is moving the gaming console "out there" and locking the gamer out of any control over his library. I guess you could say that's already happened for NetFlix, but lag isn't an issue there. You can't buffer against lag in a video game. Evar.
Please remember the Phantom Console and the miserable failure that it was. Between XBOX 360, PS3, and the Wii the safe bet is to realize that any/all of the console manufacturers (Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, respectively) can wipe OnLive off the face of the earth quite easily by manipulating price points and game developers. They're surely hoping for a buyout, but it probably won't happen.
