Halo 3 viral marketing begins, countdowns and flyers galore

Valve questions Microsoft's PC gaming initiative

Mar 12th 2007 12:47PM (Joystiq)
GFW is about marketing dollars for the publishers. In return, the publishers have to fulfill certain requirements, e.g. supporting limited users properly, installing into the Games Explorer if they're on Vista, etc. Frankly, it's pretty low bar stuff in exchange for a logo, marketing campaign money, and a consistent retail box (which PCs have never had; go into your bestbuy to see the shelves for PC games vs 360/PS3/Wii and tell me which makes more of an impact). I don't think how trying to promote more PC games can be a bad thing, unless we want the only PC game company to make money be Blizzard.

There's also no restriction in GFW that the games be Vista-only. Lego Star Wars and Company of Heroes, both GFW titles, were XP capable. I think Lego was even Win2K compatible. It just seems like a no brainer to me. The threat to Doug is more around the competition to Steam. For a long time they've had free rein to provide a craptastic experience since they were the only game in town. Now they're running scared because Big Bad Microsoft is muscling in.

Grunge, yes, the style of play is exactly the same. You know, kinda like chess is another generic checkers game.

XBLA Today: Heavy Weapon

Jan 17th 2007 8:58PM (Joystiq)
MosquitoControl, Heavy Weapon is a 4 player game.

While I agree that Rally-X and Novadrome have been.....underwhelming, some other games have been fun. I've personally enjoyed Outpost Kaloki, Cloning Clyde, Assault Heroes, Astropop, RoboBlitz and Uno.

Preliminary: Xbox 360 wins holiday sales battle [update 1]

Dunno why people keep harping on the fact that the Wii/PS3 didn't come out till mid-Nov. The NPD numbers account for December. The November numbers have already been released. This is only for the period from 12/1/06 to 12/25/06.

November NPD: revised data reveals current install bases

Dec 14th 2006 4:36PM (Joystiq)
NPD numbers only cover roughly 60% of total sales in the US. So, if they say 3.4mil year to date, the figure is likely close to 5.6mil. As someone else pointed out in this thread, they don't cover some of the big retailers (the largest being Walmart) and a lot of online stores.

5.6 + 2 (guesstimate for EU) + 0.5 (guesstimate for rest of world) = 8.1mil (pretty close to what MS has been saying)

Analyst: Sony only shipped 125K to 175K PS3s

Nov 22nd 2006 2:38PM (Joystiq)
"No 400k did ship. And again, use your common sense. There would have been only 1 per store if the amount stated in the article did ship."

This is one of the dumbest statements I've read in a long time. The article states, on the high end, 175K units shipped. You say this would work out to 1 per store, indicating there were 175K stores across North America to carry the PS3, a ludicrous statement by itself.

However, let's play along and say you're right, i.e. 175K stores did carry the PS3. If 400K units shipped, then each store would've only have 2-3 units on average! Just as nonsensical since most stores had more than that, with some stores having as many as 30. You sir, are an idiot.

Lol. Let's now see B33-Sony-Drone respond to Chris @ 22. Hilarious smack down.

It's funny how B33 is now saying that "all consoles are good" when just a couple months ago it was all sony, all the time. Given him a couple more months, maybe he'll switch teams again and be a 360/Wii fanboy instead.

PS3 loses more exclusives

"Nintendo and Microsoft also missed their shipping targets."

B33-Sony-Drone, please provide proof of this. 360 shipping targets are right on for this holiday (which is what everyone's talking about) and the Wii is in line to sell (not ship) 1mil by end of year.

B33....so......much........denial..........

The Sony PR drones are truly out and spinning today.
